I've had a 1st hand report from one of my team who struggled to quit that the Alan Carr book was all she needed.... gonna get a copy for myself too tbh.

I read the book and most of it was stuff I had in my head anyway, it was stuff I was questioning. Like how did it all begin and why/how do none smokers not get the cravings....if that makes sense.

His advice is to just stop without any help, just get your head right and stop. I tried this morning without a patch on and it was hell, I put one on before I went the shops and bought ciggies.

He goes on about the first ciggie in the morning being awful so why carry on for the rest of the day with them, I had a problem with that idea because I loved the first one of the day, it was the others that didn't mean as much as the first one.

So if I get to say 10am each morning I am ok for the rest of the day.......with patches on.

The book isn't dear but if you want it PM me your address Jup.

No-one likes a quitter Trem. I just went for the cut down option instead - just have the odd roll-up as a treat - I go through no more than 3 or 4 a day, which are hardly breaking the bank and probably won't do much harm. I don't want to live til 80 anyway, and be all unfirm and wet the bed. In fact if I live til 80 I shall rent a Ferrari and crash it into a tree at 120mph. Dying in a fireball sounds way more fun than dying covered in tubes in a hospital.

A hospital what is it???? It's a big building with patients but that's not important right now.

*ahem*

I may well die at 50 or even 40 but I don't want to be crawling and gasping to my grave, I want to spend the rest of my life jumping up and down and having rampant sex.

I want to arrive there in style.

You have done well Bods, never thought you would cut down. You were like me not wanting to quit and actually thinking we enjoy it.

Keep it up luv.

I am finding I actually enjoy them a lot more now I'm smoking less. I dislike the taste of normal fags now (all those chemicals - eurgh). The doobies help as well :D

Don't call me Shirley!

I'm tempted to jump on this bandwagon cos I really want to quit but I know it wouldn't last. I've got a pretty evil sounding cough atm but I'm just coming out of a couple of weeks of fluey goodness so I'm attributing it to that.

When you hate tobacco, it's easy to quit. Smoking is a complete waste, it doesn't even get you stoned. But you've wasted money and your health.

I stopped about two years ago and haven't been ill since, or suffered my previously-annual coughing fits. Now when I walk, I fly -my walking time to work has gone from 25mins to 15mins.

I've noticed that actually.

Been cold turkey for ~2 weeks now and I noticed at work that I felt quite loose and energetic.

It's an amazing feeling. :D

my mother has smoked for decades and now she is only 40 something she has the cough of someone dieing of lung cancer. its violent, horrible and makes me shit my pants everytime she does it. sometimes i get woken in the morning because the cough is THAT loud you can hear it all over the house. i could of sworn it sounds like she is coughing blood up sometimes. its the sound of when your coughing then you nearly puke. she is always sniffing aswell like she got a problem with the lining of her nose.

for some reason she wont goto the doctors. ive thought for years now i reckon she does have cancer. and that she either knows and wont say anything or she is just scared to find out.

i can tell you its hella upsetting, but there is nothing i can do about it. shes tryed quitting many times but it doesnt work. she cant take nicotine supplements either because of a medical condition she has.

so if you wont stop just for your self maybe think of other people like your kids or what ever. i have never really told anyone all this before but i hope it may help some of yas ;)

How old are you? I would just say it to be honest.

I dont mean how old are you in a funny way, I mean if you're 18 you cant tell your mum stuff like you can when you're 42 :)

I've started getting cravings. I never noticed just how many people smoke in films.

I'm going out tonight and I'm going to lapse. Someone abuse me please.

That Alan Carr book I read is fucking weird. It seemed to be telling me all the stuff I knew, but its like it has acted as self hypnosis.

Everytime I want a ciggie a bit of the book flashes in my head and it stops me wanting one immediately. Very cool.

If anyone is serious about quitting I reckon that book will deffo help but I am using patches and it says in the book to use nothing, but even so I still haven't smoked.

I had a cigarette tonight...well, it was a Marlboro light - does that count?

I feel fucking angry with myself because I made the excuse and convinced myself before I even did it.

My reasons for quitting aren't as serious or even as worthwhile as Trem's. I quit to be straight-edge, I wasn't a heavy smoker and rarely smoked at home so giving up shouldn't be hard and it isn't. I guess I smoked tonight because I don't want to give up.

Bah.

Thats the problem luv. I never wanted to quit until now. You will do it but when you have to rather than when you think you should.

When climbing stairs becomes hard you may think about it then, I was exactly the same as you.

Mmmmmm Marlboro Lights, you lucky bastard they WERE my brand of choice

They made my mouth dry. Didn't know you could still get them.

I started on Silk Cut then went quickly onto those little Embassy ones in the torquise(sp) packet, the uber strong ones that they don't make anymore. They were nasty.

I smoked Dunhill or L&B if I was poor.

I'm at football tomorrow and not smoking is going to be difficult, so I'll see how it goes.

Thats excellent tris, those lozengers are evil though.

She needs to stop totally, 5 a day is harder to stop than 20, she will be counting the minutes to her next one. That is what it was like for me anyway, it was all or nothing for me.

Even so at least shes making the effort.
