For all you older folk who have long since made the transition from radio 1 to radio 2/ local radio, if you aren't aware Zane Lowe is doing his masterpiece albums again where he selects 4 albums that are considered classics and plays them uninterupted and unsensored in the original track order.
So far it was the self titled album from the Stone Roses on Monday and self titled album from Rage against the machine was tonight. But it seems they've saved the best till last, Pink Floyd dark side of the moon is tonight (Wednesday) and even better The Prodigy music for the jilted generation on thursday  definatetly worth listening to as they do a quick history on the albums before they start them off at 9pm.

Finished work a bit early. Great album. Good interviews beforehand. Doubt my ears will be working properly tomorrow. Lots of other old-school tracks that influenced them and were influenced by them.

Music For The Jilted Generation, absolute animal of an album. Stone Roses was also a great choice for this set of masterpieces.

I still can't understand why I was so eager to listen to an album that I already have, I could listen to it now if I wanted to.

Because there's a sense of joining in and being part of something that you don't get when its pulsing out through iPod earphones :)

When I've been driving around of an evening i've caught a few of the masterpiece playings. He did Lez Zep a little while ago too - it was the first time I'd heard the album and I thought hmmm that is actually quite good.

Its nice to see he does things 'properly' and treats the music with a degree of respect you don't often see.

Yea, know what you mean about owning the album and being able to listen to it at anytime. But, I like all the banter, history and build up beforehand with Zane, makes it more of an occasion and its not always an album you might play regular, kinda reintroduces me to it again.

3 good albums, but they're so good most people have them anyway... so I don't really see the point. Anyway, he's become an irritant since leaving Xfm for the BBC... Sometimes I really wish the BBC wouldn't ruin Xfm's talent base every few years. Probably why the station has gone to shit now and only has one or two good DJs.

yet somehow 6music has turned to utter shit. lamacq and radcliffe are the last bastions of hope.

anyway, this gives me an idea...if you were zane lowe, aside from putting a gun in your mouth what five albums would you pick?

Jilted generation would be in there, Bleed America Jimmy eat world, final straw snow patrol, whats the story morning glory oasis. Think we should leave it at four.

Either a typo or you didn't like one of them, interested to know which one. Personally I'm not a fan of rage against the machine.

Stone Roses. RATM aren't great but their first album is fantastic.

I think it's a fantastic series, whether you think they've picked the right albums or not. It made me drop into HMV and pick up a copy of RATM on CD, an album that I had on cassette when it first came out, and have no idea where it went. I bet it also introduced a bunch of people to a number of artists that they wouldn't possibly have heard before. Bands like RATM, Prodigy, Pink Floyd etc may not have invented a genre, but they certainly crystallized their particular style, and have served as definitive references for thousands of bands in their wake. How many people under 25 think that Linkin Park invented Rap Metal?

I don't know what other organisation apart from the BBC could possibly do a series like that. Commercial radio drives me insane with the same adverts again and again and again and again. To just have an hour or so, uninterrupted play of an album, how the artists wanted it to be played is, for me, perfect radio.

or you could just buy them and listem to them yourself, free from the constraints of the programming schedule.......

they are "classic albums" for a reason so you would be hoping to relisten to them, i play my
Roger Waters "Amused To Death" probably once a week

The beauty about Zane is that he does not appear to be bowing to the typical same old same old Playlist. His show is completely random and very John Peel like.

The show tonight is being hosted by the Prodigy, starting in 10 mins. Am hoping for good stuff, although 'dangerous' Dave Pearce is helping them out which could make things less awesome ;)

bump

forgot to mention it this week so you've missed metallica, the streets, and the clash unless you go to listen again. But tonight is Daft punk Discovery which is a great album I think.
