If you could choose any musicians/singers/performers from any period and make an awesome overall super-duper funky hipster groovy schmoovy group, who would be in it?

Mine would be something like:

Vocal - Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon)
Guitar - Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam)
Guitar - Steve Cropper (Old Soul/Blues legend) (was in the blues brothers band in the film)
Bass - Stuart Zender (Jamiroquai)
Drums - Stewart Copeland (The Police)

Tried to match up the styles a bit so it would work
Would be a very blues/funk/rock band or something.

they would sound indie-pop-esque, with big harmonies and things

Can I ask why you chose ringo?

Is it purely based on persona? As in all honesty he wasn't a very good drummer.

Guitar - Billy Corgan (may not be the best player in the world but the Pumpkins had the best guitar sound ever in my opinion).

Loops and electro stuff - Adam Copeland
Maracas - Bez
Vocals - Gotta admit, I've always had time for Rob Dickinson of Catherine Wheel fame. (Although maybe Jeff Buckley).

God knows what kind of racket they'd make.

Well, the band he was in created indie-pop, John Bonham & Keith Moon are better drummers, but not at all suited the sound that would be created. If i was listing a supergroup of the most skileld person for each posistion, It'd be a very different band.

At least the band would never be short of arguments, whether or not they'd ever actually get round to writing anything let alone recording it is another matter

I chose them on individual merits, combine the four and they'd sound awful and I know that, just chose who I like most really.

They were a shit band who did one good album called Nevermind and then were so overblown it wasn't worth knowing about as they were outclassed by just about every band that were called their rivals that it was almost amusing to us true music lovers as to why they were even compared.

At least Kurt Cobain admitted defeat and shot himself before it became too embarrasing how far he was out of his league.

Wh happens to be my favourite band ever yet i still find much time for Nirvana and i miss them greatly. Certainly not a shit band by any stretch of the imagination, really good songs and i love all of their albums but must say i dont listen to them an awful lot more

No really, although worded fairly badly as it was (typed it last night when I got in) it is pretty much spot on.

Dave Grohl has done much better on his own, and as far as the other bands of the era, Mudhoney were better, Soundgarden were better, Pearl Jam were better, Alice in Chains were better, Smashing Pumpkins were better, Stone Temple Pilots were better and so were a whole host of other 'grunge' bands.

Granted, Nevermind was a good album, but Bleach, In Utero and whatever ther other thingy was (Inscesticide?) were a bit pony to say the least. And the Unplugged set was pretty awful, although pretty clever how he got his acoustic guitar to distort

I think Foo Fighters are good, but they don't have that raw edge that Nirvana had. Bleach was an inspirational album, Lovebuzz is still one of my favourite songs, and the Unplugged set was great.

Smashing Pumpkins have had a few anthemic songs, but having seen them live they have no soul. Alice in Chains did some blinding songs, and also some generic angst rock songs. Stone Temple Pilots are good but dull. Soundgarden, some classics, great vocals but some background noise songs too. Mudhoney were a bit of a non event for me. Pearl Jam = teh win (but shut up speaking between songs, you're ruining the moment Mr Vedder).

They rocked at Reading 95 and were superb same as the Foos first ever UK gig in the most packed tent I've ever been in there. Soundgarden were a bit dull tho altho still pretty good everything seemed slow.

Green Day were possibly the highlight at that festival though I remember it all quite vividly due to me almost biting off half my tongue watching Reef whilst giving some bloke a foot up cos he wanted to crowd surf as I went to launch him he jumped and kneed me under the chin, I just hobbled out and watched Soundgarden in a bad mood and a lot of pain.

Also my mates car got nicked, but instead of stealing it and driving away, the person who broke into it was so stoned he drove into the camping area and we recognised it and chased it around until it stalled

Strange times indeed but fun never-the-less.

But... Pumpkins kicked ass there (oh and I saw Blind Melon there and I always take any chance I get to plug them RIP Shannon Hoon).

I did see Smashing Pumpkins about two years ago at Wembley Arena and they were god awful though, all lights and synths, it was more like Marillion than the good old rock out days, and they ruined it all for me by doing an acoustic version of Today this was the only gig I've ever walked out of early.

Well, whatever year it was I saw them at Reading (was sometime around there) I'd been really looking forward to seeing them, and they were bollocks. Technically good, but so lacking in soul that they could have been 2 Unlimited for all it was worth. I wandered off disappointed and bought some fish and chips instead.

OMG! Their unplugged set was masterful! Rarely have I heard such a soulful performance.

Oh come on, Feeder have released three stunning albums out of their four, and they used to be one of the best live bands around in 96-99.

They might be boring inasmuch as they dont shag groupies, swear on TV and throw televisions through hotel windows but WTF does that have to do with anything?

And their first mini-LP, "Swim" is one of the hardest rocking bastards of an album I've ever heard. I've still never heard anything that can top the dynamics of a song like "Stereo World".
