my urge to check my pockets is so strong that I have to do it even when I really can't spare a free hand, like when riding a mountain bike down a slope at 60kph.
If I'm driving, and my jacket is on the rear seat (as I'm wont to place it), I'll get the urge so bad that I have to reach behind me to feel the pockets.

The possibility of dying while 'doing' your OCD and dying because you don't.

I must add that, since the last time I nearly went off the road in a car, I found I can put the intense urge on the back burner a bit by holding in my mind that I will stop as soon as I am able so I can check my pockets to my heart's content. Also, this only goes if I am alone in the car.

strangely, I'd only think the urge is a compulsion when I am left to my own devices and *need* something, like my house keys, that I get the compulsive urge to check my pockets. If I am with my girlfriend, who also has my house keys, the urge is still there, but I'm not driven to check my pockets and will just check them randomly like I suppose a normal human does.
