Brainiac - An infectious mix of pop , falseto vocals and noise. I would seriously recommend listening to this if you like jesus lizard/ Shellac/ japanese noise bands / electro pop and or noise bands.

Try 'Bonsai superstar' or 'Hissing Prigs In Static Couture'

Pity the lead singer/instrumentalist died in a tragic car crash just as they were about to break the 'big' time :(

While I do love Amon Tobin he isnt a band Plighty :-]

I couldn't pick "just one band", it would be impossible given that I like so many genres and styles.

Best band ever.....hmmm, for me it would be between Katatonia, opeth or My Dying Bride ;)

/edit actually out of the three I would say Katatonia, since they continually re-invent themselves, while My Dying Bride seem to play each album in Doom/Death vein while Opeth.....Every album since Still Life seems to be the same (Apart from Damnation ofc)

Kinda hard to describe since they have moved from in the early days being very doomy like say early Anathema and My Dying Bride with the first album and have changed with every album more or less. Slow and very gloomy but still with enough melody to keep it interesting. On there second album they borrowed Opeth's singer to do the vocals and it is in my opinion there best album with the cookiemonster vocals, here they also started using somewhat clean vocals, something they they would perfect later on. The sound is pretty repetetive (Neurosis springs to mind) which only adds to the hopelessness you are supposed to get from the music.

With the third album they started using clean vocals solely making the music not only more compelling for the general listener but also brings forth the very gloomy themes of the lyrics. It's very minimalistic and simple and maybe that's just why this record works so well. The perfect album if you feel like depressing yourself. The fourth album was kinda of a dissapointment for me. Renkse's vocals had definatly become alot more standard and the music was more to the rock way then I would have liked. The gloom was still there but the atmosphere wasnt as present anymore. As time passed some of the songs grew on me though and now I think it's a great album although not par with there other albums. There fifth album however had alot more appeal for me. Sporting the same melancholic take on rock as the fourth but with alot more confidence this album is quite a piece of art. It's so solid it's mindboggling imaging that it's the same band as on December Soul. The first 6 songs have no flaw whatsoever and that's just rare in modern music. Probably the easiest album to get into for the casual rock/metal/pop listener. There 6th album is abit harder to get stuck with, it was atleast for me. The songs grew on me after hand though. It's more melancholic rock for the gang these days instead of the blackened doom they started out with. Regardless of there current sound it's always excellent though.

(Oh and if you failed to notice I really like Katatonia)

Check out tracks from the different albums:
Dance of December Souls: Gateways Of Bereavement (3:40 on gives me the shivers)
Brave Murder Day: Murder, Rainroom(the fadeout is just brilliant)
Discouraged Ones: Stalemate, Deadhouse (incredible), Saw You Drown (eek)
Tonight's Deciscion: I Am Nothing, Right Into Bliss
Last Fair Deal Gone Down: Dispossesion(submarine echo in a song has never sounded so fitting), Teargas
Viva Emptiness: Ghost Of The Sun, Criminals, Burn The Rememberance, Wealth

Not sure why but I find Opeth far more entertaining than Katatonia :p

Tough one. Led Zep, Deep Purple (mark 2 version naturally) and Thin Lizzy are right up there. Yep, old but proud :p

Atm it would be Lightning Bolt. They're just so completely different, it's cool :D

Close call though, between King Crimson, Tool, maybe Rush.

No such thing (for me) as 'best ever'. When I first started caring about music it would have been The Specials or The Jam, Then later it was The Smiths, Then The Stone Roses, then Nirvana, then...probably the Prodigy and Radiohead, now...dunno, Feeder are about the only band I've bought every CD of over the last few years. I think the only band I've consistently liked for 20 years are REM.

Bloodbath rule, but it will be interesting to see what there next release is like. The only real replacement to Akerfeldt was Tagtren, I wonder who they will use next? I know Akerfeldt is going to play at Wacken with them though.

My favorite band now is hmm...Finntroll, 3 Inches Of Blood, Within Temptation, Immortal, Soilwork, Diablo...I can't decide!!!
