Actually, Tigers hunting elephants is just as much an uncommon occurance as lions going for them.

Also its good to bear in mind that the females often form lion hunting groups. Since they're smaller than the males, its reasonable for them to be hunting smaller prey than Tigers, who almost always hunt alone.

Hunting patterns don't really form a good comparison in this case, I think - if the males hunted more often I'd assume you would see a hell of a lot bigger prey being taken down.
