Cool! I'm not getting involved as there's no save option, though. :(

You put the dressing gown on the hook, then put the arm in the pocket, unfortunately a service robot comes and picks up the fish, so you have to remember to pick up the junk mail at the start and place it over the door where the robot comes in and it picks up the mail rather than the fish ...

or something like that.

the adventure is full of "remember to pick up ..." type of solutions, you often have to go right back to the start just to do it all again. Typical example is to buy a cheese sandwich from the bar at the start and throw it to the dog outside, later you are on the tiny spacefleet and the dog eats it unless you've done the cheese sandwich thing.

it was f*cking annoying.

I played this game when it was on the IBM PC, thats the one with no hard disk, just 2x 180MB 5.25 floppies, at a H2G2 convention in Birmingham, a very long time ago.

I do hope you mean 170kb floppies, not 180mb :D hard drives in those days were only just about reaching the dizzy heights of 5 meg :D

:fluffle: You need to Turn on the Light. Then you Get Out Of Bed. Get the dressing gown. Wear the dressing gown. In the pocket is analgesic. Take the analgesic.

After that, you're on your own. I keep getting conched with bricks and dying. Its been a while since I played this game...

I used to play a game on the Acorn Electron called Sphinx Adventure. It was shit, yet for some reason I invested hours in it. I packed it in though at the point where I entered a forest but the path through it kept changing randomly.
Code:
> You are in the forest. You are facing North. There is an exit East.
> GO EAST
> You are in the forest. You are facing East. There is an exit West.
> GO WEST
> You are in the forest. You are facing West. There is an exit South.
> GO SOUTH
> You are in the forest. You are facing South. There is an exit North.

I've encountered summat like that b4 - but it was on a MUD. If I remember correctly, the location descriptions and exits werent very helpful, but the occupants/items of the locations were. From a fixed point of reference you could navigate off the contents, and whenever you took a wrong turn you ended up back at the fixed point of reference. With enough trial and error (or in my case askin the my m8 the admin) you could work out the route through.

What always fascinated me about "The Hobbit" was being able to command your sidekick using the "Inglish". One situatation I clearly remember is a room where you dig the floor to discover a box, but two enemies come in and attack you, the solution is to send your sidekick in the room with a string of commands, wait, and after a few turns he reappears with the box !

I may even have a go again
