I agree, I think people who work hard should reap the rewards, but the fact is that even with a bigger tax debt, you still have more to spend at the end.
My point is that eventually you reach a point where extra money is just the little sparkly balls on the icing on the cake, which should be taxed more than money needed for food (the sugary bit in the middle).

ALL tax is income tax.
You pay tax with your income, regardless of what the tax is called, it is income tax.
Blair said he would leave income tax alone, he has in name only. We have had over 30 NEW taxes since he got in, he's inventing the fuckers! All so he can say "I didn't increase Income Tax"..it's all bollocks that the general population fell for, and continue to fall for.
My favouite is tax on fags, its there to subsidise the care of the people who get smoking related disease, apparently. One third of the adult population smoke, lets say they smoke only 10 per day, thats approx 5 million packs sold per day, at lets say £4, so £20,000,000 PER DAY from smokers.
Just in case anybody didn't get that
£20,000,000 PER FUCKING DAY!!
£7,300,000,000 Per Annum
If all smokers stopped tomorrow the country would collapse shortly afterwards.
I've had a shit day btw![]()
Income Tax is specifically direct tax on income. National Insurance is, arguably, another form of income tax as it relates directly to how much you earn (income), the exception is that NI is normally capped at around 30k, but in this recent rise he has applied the 1% to the entire earnings.
Newspapers are always complaining about "stealth tax", but giving an example of "plastic bag tax" being one of them is ridiculous.
I wouldn't agree with your estimate of 30% adults smoking, nevertheless, I'd say your figure should be closer to £10m/day, but then compare that to Road Tax, £100/year for 30m vehicles - thats around £8m/day there, so maybe Fag Tax isn't really that excessive, especially considering vehicles are taxed again from the petrol.
There are quite a lot of things that are not taxed in this country, for example Children's Clothes and basic Foods, despite the EU insisting we tax them to harmonise tax across yerp.
Another non-taxable item is newspapers, from which we get all this bollocks, once again I remind you these are products of companies that failed to meet the regilatory minimums for corporation tax by a large margin.
