Was tempted to go for a gtx 295 card on em instead not quite decided. i put a 900w powersupply incase i go sli later anyway. As i am told it will need it.

the ddr3 is only £50 more than the ddr2

Forget the 2nd option, i7 is just too pricey atm.

The Q9650 is a bit pricey, a Q9550 will overclock pretty well (to Q9650 levels at least) if you feel comfortable doing it.

That mobo will be expensive, are these totally pre-built systems? Who from? I'd also avoid nvidia mobo's atm, not good value for money, and not great for overclocking (plus they can have a number of bugs).

Avoid Nvidia cards, get an ATI, they offer better value for money. I'd suggest a 4870, or a 4870x2 if your budget will stretch to it. I'd definitely not recommend the GTX 295 (it's a dual gpu on a single card solution), the 4870x2 performs almost as well and is about £100 cheaper.

PSU seems a bit overpowered, but should be fine. And just get the one optical drive, you don't need 2 these days. I suggest a Xonar over an x-fi if you can get it.

You got a monitor already?

TBH your probably best off sourcing the components and building it yourself. There's youtube videos and everything, it's like lego.

The sound card built into the motherboard is better than the Xtreme Audio, so you can ditch that to start with. It's a rebadged Audigy SE.

And when going for the high end option, I'd side with the i7 route purely for upgrade possibilities.

Certainly check the brand of that PSU - "power supply and case cooling?"
If it means "pc power and cooling" it's fine, otherwise unless its something like seasonic, enermax, tagan, antec, akasa, corsair then ditch it without question.

The i7 setup is only £50 more so no big difference there.

The online store is pc specialist. I find that they seem to offer good prices for the specs I am looking at.

I have ordered a samsung 22" monitor.

Thanks for the tip on the soundcard i will take that off the list.

I will find out about the psu also and see what needs to be done there.

Interested to know where all that comes from, as I would intently avoid any retailer that classes hard drive as "memory" and then again as "1000gb"

If you get a 4870 ATI card be carefull not to buy a Sapphire one (and several other brands) theres some dodgy batches that are unstable.

I found this out the hard way - the card would crash at unpredictable intervals and despite updating the bios of the card itself as per sapphires instructions the thing was still unstable - some people modified the clock speed of the cards RAM and the fan speed on the card but they still suck

I exchanged mine for a different make...
