I think it looks fucking spanking; my local dealer has the ragtop version as a demo car - i think i shall ask for a drive when my 1 series is in for its service.

The BMW is very nice, but the engines only sound nice on full chat. Get a decatted V8 and it sounds glorious at all times

I like TVR's a lot, they do sound awesome; but i hate them for all the other more important reasons.

Well I have this big old Merc now that I'll keep in perpetuity. The plan is to use that as a daily driver, and buy another Tiv as a weekend car.

Don't believe what you read about TVRs. Yes, they're expensive to run. 6k service intervals, £250 and £400 respectively (plus any extras), but on the whole provided they're looked after they're reliable cars. The only thing that caused me grief was a fuel pump power issue, a simple little thing that I never got to the bottom of.

Go ask in PH, see what people think. Tell them your budget, what you want. If I'd done that before I bought that Audi TT, I'd have saved an absolute fortune.

Granted you're not going to get as much room in a likkle Lotus Elise/Exige but christ, I'd rather have the Lotus - and spend the rest on a holiday, expensive hotel and female persons of horizontal refreshment.


oooh - and "ooooh" again at those TVRs. Nothing better than being stuck behind/next to one in a traffic jam on a sunny, quiet day

Actually, that's a lot of car for the money. TVRs are at least as expensive and they're still fucking badly screwed together. The Lotus only really works as a second car tbh, especially the Exige.

G, the coupe version is apparently very different to drive than the softtop. The coupe has a faster steering rack and different suspension and is a bit of hard-core beastie where the soft top is more rounded. Most of the mags reckon the coupe is a bit of a 'Marmite' car to drive, you either love it or hate it.

Don't want to sound like a fanboi but that really isn't true. The main problems with modern TVRs are mostly to do with soft followers on the cams. Their reputation for unreliability is undeserved.

I understand that you can remove it, but if you get a road side test and it fails it's emissions, you can get done for it.

However, there are instances of a cat being removed and cars passing emissions tests.

Oddly enough there are methods of having the cat still installed but bypassed unless required otherwise - i'd assume its just a simple bypass pipe you can bolt in when MOT time comes around.

If your car was built before 1993, it doesn't need a cat full stop.

Lots of diesels have cats, but they're absolutely not required for the MOT.

Definitely yes. Those wheels make it look superb and apparently the strut brace really improves the handling. Also has the finest engine in production (apart from maybe the V10 from the M5). Prefer the hardtop version tho, and for the same price you could have a CSL. That would be a tough choice.
