Space travel and migration to another planet is essential for long term human survival, but fuck that.

I think when we send people to mars their duration of stay will be 5 years+ and for some people permanently - imagine getting homesick and knowing you can never come back to earth.

We'll need to make a decent earth/mars net link. They have decent internet about the ISS ( bandwidth wise ) but latency ayyyyyyy.

I dunno how we're gonna solve that one outside some sort of quantum entanglement networking.

Surely the best way to test this is to stick people in a submarine for a year? I think there's a psychology of knowing you can't go outside which a bubble environment on the surface can't replicate.

Get a dozen or so credit cards and max them out buying the highest capacity USB sticks you can find. Good luck getting any money out of you if you're on Mars and not coming back :p

Not a bad idea that.

Problem comes if someone goes psychotic. How do you get them out of the sub easily?

Well, they fail the test and a bullet dodged.
Yeah, but you still need to remove the psycho from the test before he/she goes postal on the rest of the "crew".

And remove them safely and with kindness. It's a stressful situation that people have volunteered themselves for in good faith. They'd need managing out the other side if they failed the test. Firing them out of a torpedo tube, whilst cool, doesn't really help.

Of course it would, it'd take them to the surface, the escape pod would be compressed, so they could get to the surface and a waiting decompression chamber without dying and then be treated.

You've barely thought about this at all it seems.

I'm thinking that one of the crew members might have been a cunt, triggered a reaction in another one and did both of them a favour.

I'd have thought that putting a distressed person into a torpedo and firing them into the ocean may actually be a stressful event. As would further confinement in a bariatric chamber. Especially if that person has developed a capacity for self harm.

But then, we could just let the others eat him?

If a test is to understand actual scenarios, then isn't this something you could expect on Mars? Which basically means sedation or they're going out of the airlock

Seems fair to me. Just thinking logistics is all...

I think PR would be the biggest issue; "day 43, commander x had a psychotic break. The remaining crew members decided to execute him" #firetorpedotube1
