Howdy

OS: Windows XP
Problem: When starting Disk cleanup, disk clean begins, and seems to just stop, when it says scanning compress files, When i press Ctrl-Alt-Del, the prog is using around 87% of CPU and mem is around 5mb, anyone know why or what to do..

Apart from getting Windows 2000, because NO!!!!

Its got something to do with either the space on your drive , is it partitioned?

What background prog is running while doing it ? (ie.anti virus - lke norman the machine killer!)

This behavior can occur when the following conditions are true:

A drive that is not a system drive that has System Restore enabled on it has reached less than 50 MB of free disk space.

A copy, delete, modify operation was made to a file that is monitored by System Restore on such drive.

Please check Microsoft at:
http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?ln=en-gb

Hope this helps

;)

thing that may be happening, but I have no idea if xp has this feature, is that it's moving through a filesystem that has been "compressed". I don't know if you remember programs like "Stacker" that muck about with interleaves and suchlike? well the penalty for the so called "extra space" you get is that your pc has to work rather hard when it opens files on it.
