My system:
Windows XP with latest updates including latest Direct X (up to 8th

June 2002)
P4 1.6 Ghz
512Mb PC2100 DDR
Asus P4S333 Motherboard
Seagte UDMA66 20gb hard drive
Mirai CD Re-writer

All latest software versions and drivers (up to 8th June 2002)

My Problem:
I installed my Razer Boomlsang 2000 gaming mouse under Windows XP not

realising that the driver doesn't support XP and when I start to play

Counter Strike the game comes almost to a complete freeze. Very very

low frames per second.

I uninstalled the driver and the Boomslang software and shut down PC

then reconnected my old Logitech ps2 wheel mouse using the Microsoft

Standard PS2 Whell Mouse driver. I start playing Counter Strike and

the second I get into the game, the same again happens, the game almost

completely freezes up. I have tried completely un-installing Counter

Strike and then re-installing from scratch and exactly the same

symptons.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be much appreciated.

Maybe there are Boomslang driver updates which work with XP?

The Boomslang is a hunk of junk, get rid of it and get a decent (optical) mouse..

From Razer's site

XP Drivers: Yes, yes we know ... we've been promising XP drivers since December, and we've had to keep pushing back the date. Those of you who know us are aware that this is not the way we have done business in the past. Yes, we are going to complete XP drivers. Yes, we want to satisfy all of our customers. When we came back from the near deceased, we received over 1500 email requests for drivers to support XP. We reacted quickly and contacted our favorite driver development company. In our eagerness to supply our customers with what they want (and need) we forgot on small detail ... money!! Seems like this restart of our business required a lot more working capital than we anticipated. Therefore, we have had to play stop and start with all of our expenses. This does not mean that we are in any trouble, it merely means that we will all have to wait a little longer for a complete recovery. We apologize for any inconvenience that we have caused you and truly appreciate your patience and support in this unfortunate delay. We will post a "real" date as soon as we know something firm.

As for fixing it, just do the same as if you were trying to totally remove video drivers, and you should be fine.

Not sure an optical mouse is the best thing, I have a problem with mine where if I have my windows mouse speed up to high the mouse pointer moves as if its on a grid, this makes aiming over long distance very hard in CS. I'm told its the optical mouse thats to blame .

I've had to turn down the speed of the mouse in wondows and up in the game, this is annoying to have to do .

I'm on win2kpro which is almost the same as XP isnt it ?

Ahhhh, that's how you fix that.:)

Been annoying me for ages, I've sort of adapted to it anyway for gaming, but it was really getting on my nerves when I was working with Photoshop.

No, XP and 2k are not the same. XP changes the way the mouse works in alot of games, win98se/me/2k is much better for playing Half life or mods, trust me.

XP and 2k do the dodgy mouse thing, 98 and ME dont.

XP is essentially the same as 2k as it is based on 2k, and its definitely more based on 2k than 98..... :p

I never had a grid type problem when I was using XP though, just weird sensitivity in XP....

Optical mice are the daddies and wont be beaten by any ball mouse, ever. :p

Maybe the first opticals were worse than the boomslang for grip and durability, but the explorer 3.0 will not skip no matter what :)
