 Could someone tell me just how powerful the xbox is?! Does it stand a chance against my 1600xp Athlon + Geforce2Ti? Oh and will the multiplayer games be able to get onto PC game servers? :puke: Lets thrash those console losers into oblivion:flame:

It makes me laugh when people say "Consoles are WAY BETTER than PC`s" when they have afraction of the power and there are ALOT more periferals available for the PC! You can get PC that will play most games that will be released in the next two years (maybe) and all the games that r out now for a very reasonable price. And you get the added bonus of broadband internet, webcams and Fantastic sterio quality( obviously depending on yer sound card)! What i would LOVE to know is why settle for a console when you can have a behemoth PC?!!!!:p

You would be wrong then. Consoles don't work the same so while the Xbox only has a 700Mhz processor it and the rest of the system make a machine thats more powerful than your setup atm. Games designers can also squeeze more out of consoles because they don't have to worry about all the different manufacturers parts that go into all the different configurations of PC making loads of PCs with differing amounts of power.....Consoles have there specs set in stone.

People like me don't settle for one over the other....I have both and always have had for years even when you go back to my Acorn and my Atari 2600 which sat next to each other.

Below is the specs sheet for a PS2:

CPU: 128-bit Emotion Engine at 294.912MHz
Main Memory: 32MB Direct RDRAM
Graphics: Graphics synthesizer at 147.456MHz, embedded cache VRAM--4MB
Sound: SPU2 with 48 channels plus software, sound memory--2MB
Input/Output Processor: CPU Core--PlayStation CPU+ at 33.8688MHz or 36.864MHz (selectable)
Media: CD-ROM and DVD-ROM
Disc Speed: 24x CD-ROM, 4x DVD-ROM

Yet how can this Console produce the graphics in games like MG2 etc ;)

Alas I think that the XBox is in real terms equivalent to a Athlon 1600+ with a GeForce 3.

What most people seem to forget is that the XBox is going to bomb out in Japan and lose out on all the original Jap games to come.

Gamecube (in partnership with Sega) 0wnz.

Consoles dont have massive shite OS's on them. The DreamCast never did well, did anyone see what OS it had onboard the DC? :)

aye the xbox is more powerful than a PC with a p3 700, It also has the NV20 GF3 chip in.

But standard TV's don't produce as good gfx as PC monitors because of their crappy resolution.

but like for the dreamcast i think u can get an adapter to hook it up to your monitor for excellent quality.

I think in the long run Consoles are better as like what embattle said they just hoof up the specs for a pc game - while with a console programming techniques are improved, hence first, second and third generations of games showing improvements over each other.

I know this hasnt got much to do with the topic now but someone said about the xbox. From the specs u can clearly c that it can run games better than the ps2. I know thats not everything but i just think its a shame that Japan stick to there own, if they loved games and wanted them to evolve as much as they say they do then they should produce games for the xbox. Think about it if they did you know they would be good.

And all because Japan are stickin to there own one good console will just go the way of the DC. what a waste :(

PC's and consoles are different beasts. They both have their pros and cons - they should not be compared against each other.

I understand what your all saying BUT, i think that console just do push you to the limit! PC game scan have you on the edge of your seat, especially with the sound quality, and graphical capabilities available today. The X-Box, to me, just feels like an upgraded PS2 but without the good controllers and GT3! I still feel that the PC is UNBEATABLE and noone has yet been able to prove me wrong. Come on Sony, build us a beast!!!!!:D

Luckily for us it's your feeling and not a fact....btw if you judge games by graphics and sound alone you've already binned some of the best games ever made.

OK. True there are more aspects to gaming than graphics and sound but they help don`t they! lets compare the PS2 to the PC.
The PC is upgradable, has the capability to conect with Billions of people around the world and can be used to do just about anything you could think of sat at a desk! The PS2. Has a reset button. Has 2 pads. Has a few wires. Has less games. has poor picture quality, has second rate DVD playback. Has over-expencise games. Has as much originality as a cloned sheep. Hasn`t changed much sinse the PSone. Hasn`t got a chance against a PC.

As for gameplay, you don`t see legendary games like Soldier of fortune or Counter strike or RedFaction or Jedi Knight 2 or Age of empires or ........ i could go on forever. The fact of the matter is that for a console to be the Ultimate Gaming Machine it needs to be a PC!

Ahem, I can counter every thing you say:

Yes the PC is Upgradeable but it costs more to upgrade to the latest graphics card than the PS2 costs to buy.

Yes you can connect with billions of people a round the world....but most of them are morons/don't speak english although this feature is set to appear in consoles.

The DVD playback is better than most PCs.

Those aren't legendary games...good but not legendary.

A PC isn't a games machine at all and still remains more of an office appliance than a games machine as per it's original conception.

A:- Where the fuck do you shop????????
B:- A PC is what you make of it and MINE is a Games Machine/ Internet terminal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:upyours: Oh and any TRUE gamer would NEVER call their PC an "Office Appliance". What planet are u on?

Danny he has you by the gonads.

Think about it, even at eBuyer, a GeForce 4 Ti4600 will cost around £350? PS2 = £200, hell, XBox = £350. And thats just a GFX card. What if you dont have a fast enough PC to take full advantage of it? More money!

Anyway, consoles are made to play games.. they do it better on less hardware, so to speak. PCs are mainly office appliances.. webservers, TV broadcasters everything just about.. all in the office..

And you said PS2 has less wires.. well wtf does that have to do with it competing against a PC?
And a lot of those games arent revolutionary :p
