Help Xbox live headset

i know this has prolly been asked before but my live headset is borked, can i use my pc headset (2 different 3.5 mm jack plugs) for live

i only want the microphone part of it not the stereo sound to work, so i thought i could just get a 3.5mm to 2.5 mm convertor and plug my mic jack from my headphones into the convertor then the convertor into the xbox controller, would that work ?


or do i need to make a Y piece as the xbox plays the other live players voices up through the mic wire (on a normal xbox live headset)

thanks for all the replies, i tried a cellphone headset with a built in mic and that worked fine
