I've been trying to connect my Xbox 360 to my network since yesterday, and it's been giving me so much trouble in actually doing this.

I am using a wired-Linksys BEFSR41 router, which is connected to both my PC and my XBox. I can connect to my XBox Live! however when i try to connect my PC to my Xbox, it says that no PC's have been listed.

When i check my PC, and the network map i can see that both my PC and Xbox are listed, but i still can't seem to get any type of connection between the two to actually stream media using the Windows Media Centre.

I've checked several different videos and also other XBox forums but it doesn't seem to be giving me anything.

Yesterday i did get a new network card which i installed on the basis that i thought the XBox RJ45 needed to be connected to my PC, when i did this i was able to connect to the XBox/PC and use the media centre, however the XBox Live didn't work.

I went onto the Linksys Router page to check, and put some recommended numbers in using Port Forwarding, but once again that didn't help.

I'm at a loose end pretty much now, i can't seem to find out how to get them to work together!

Indeed. XBox Live is working fine with no issues now. But for some reason i can't even connect the XBox to the PC because it's coming up that there is no PC Listed.

I went with Windows Media Centre and used the Extender, entered in the code from my XBox but once again it said that it could not set up the Extender.

Also i'm on Windows 7, forgot to mention that.

It does give out a few generalised error messages, when i search Google for these errors everyone has their own methods of "getting it to work". However it doesn't seem to be working for me.

Using the XBox: Test PC connection.

Checked my PC, and my XBox is listed in the Network and Sharing Centre when i bring up "See full map"

In Network and Sharing i have clicked on HomeGroup, Stream pictures etc to devices on my home network. XBox 360 is listed and set to "Allowed".

***This is a tricky one as i'm not 100% sure. My Firewall is the Windows one, which apparently works as-is with XBox anyway. I went into my router settings and made some ammendments.

Applications and Gaming > Port Range

Start 80, End 80, IP Address 192.168.1.101, Enabled
Start 3074, End 3074, IP Address 192.168.1.101, Enabled

I don't know much about routers to begin with, so if there is an issue, im almost certain this is where i am getting blocked. Either my router is stopping it, or the firewall, which looks to be fine anyway...

I went into services.msc and made some changes to it, things like.

UPnP Device Host - Started/Manual
SSDP Discovery - Started/Manual

I'm also unsure if i need to enable items in my router / UPnP because they're disabled by default. Things like HTTP, POP3, FTP, SMPT etc etc. Each and everyone is disabled - but i don't know if i should enable them.

Wasn't really getting anywhere it seemed, which was somewhat unfortunate. Spent a few hours with it to no avail.

In the end, because i didn't want to access XBox Live anyway, i removed the RJ45 from my Linksys router and plugged it directly back into my PC. While i no longer have access to Live, i was able to immediately connect to my XBox.

Streamed the files over... Went to watch one... "To watch this video you need to connect to the XBox Live and download the Optional Media Update"

Fuckofffffffffffffffffffffff.

Done another search, and it seems Microsoft have you over a barrel. Theres absolutely no way i can connect to XBox Live and download this optional media update. Takes the piss.

One option i guess is to reconnect it to my router, and then i hear people use these Silver memberships or whatever to download it, but i have absolutely no idea if this is going to work or not.

Really not sure what's messing all this up for you mate.

Job done. Try turning off windows firewall and/or any other firewall software you have on the PC and giving it another go.

Well i finally got what i wanted it to do, massive pain in the arse.

Actually think its my router blocking it, i don't know though.

I had to connect the RJ45 cable back into my router to access the XBox live, to install the optional media update, because it wasn't letting me stream any videos over.

Then i removed the cable from the router and put it back into my PC directly, this ended up being a massive pain trying to get the PC and XBox to connect again.

In the end i did, but then i found when i tried to stream a video i would get an error "53-c00df238". When i searched this, looks like it was a big problem for many people where the connection to the stream would end up getting lost.

Yesterday i installed TVersity, but wasn't getting anywhere with it. But just as soon as i disconnected my router, TVersity popped up on my XBox - and i was able to stream all my videos straight away.

No idea what exactly changed. All i did was disconnect the router, but the RJ45 wasn't even connected to the router at the time, so i don't understand it. Going to turn off my XBox now and laugh when it doesn't work again (I bet)

Confirmed.

Turned off my XBox with my router connected, and i couldn't access it.

Soon as i unplugged the router, i was able to access the streaming immediately.

So somehow the router is blocking it.

Possible fix to PC NOT LISTED

Hey Gray,
I had this issue last week, so I compiled an .EXE that restarts several services on your PC and should get the streaming working fine.

I had the exact same symptoms but worked out it wasnt the router by sharing some media from a separate PC and that worked fine.

I know I don't have many posts (but I only signed up to help you) so you have no reason to trust me and download and run this file, but it may help get the streaming working. If you don't trust my script, then run a virus scan


Run it as an administrator, it will then as you a question, type "y" and then enter, it will then restart several services like UPnP, SSDP, WMP NS, ZUNE NS and then if you do a PC Connection Test on your 360, it should show up.

Its in a zip file also, so you need to extract it.

Also; you will need to run the file every time your computer restarts.

Because it needs to run as an administrator.

Its originally a command prompt script, compiled into an EXE.

I have something similar. I can connect to my computer as long as the xbox is turned on first. Otherwise I have to restart my computer before I can get into it. I've even had a mate round to look at it and he can't see any reason for this. Bloody annoying though...

Half-forgot about this, but i remembered i still had this thread going.

I put up with having to disconnect my router temporarily while i streamed videos, but i decided to just have another crack at it.

I checked the uPnP and it was already enabled, checked the Windows Firewall and i couldn't see anything. The one thing that kept bothering me was that when my Xbox was on, it was coming up as being on a public network, an "unidentified".

I checked around a bit, enabled Internet Connection Sharing on my PC, but again it wasn't having anything to do with it. Thats when i seen a term i heard of previously - network bridging.

"What the hell" i thought, i gave it a crack after reading this thread. I applied a network bridge in the settings... Internet disconnected and reconnected, i checked my Xbox.

It worked! Whats more, Xbox Live cameup as well! I was able to stream videos straight away too.

This hasn't come without a hitch though, while it works, it isn't... perfect. As soon as i turn on/off my Xbox, my internet temporarily disconnects itself but then reconnects.
