Will the Xbox 360 play Xbox games?

I am totally in the dark regarding these things and I am about to go buy one for someone for Xmas and she wants Spyro as well, that game isn't on the 360 so I gotta get the Xbox version.

PLayed some old games like GTA San Andreas and Halo and they are better tbh, faster loading etc

Yes I do believe the Xbox 360 is backward compatible. However it is not for every game, although they were trying to make it as many games as possible.

How fucking great is Gamestation? Amazing bunch of lads in there, I got a new Xbox 360 with PES for £200. Cannot find a deal to match that anywhere.

Basic system obviously, I aren't spending anymore on Samms parents

You need to get the pro version to play old games, and they will need a internet connection as well.

arnt you able to burn the update needed for some game to cd-r and upgrade like that? so no interweb conn needed

No you need the hard drive to play older xbox games as they use it to cache data.

but some games do not work without an update, and it's cheaper to get a pro console than buy a core and upgrade it.

Will save a lot of hassle to buy a pro in the first place.

Although if it's just for spyro, get a DS and spyro on that.

you can get the updates I believe off microsofts website and burn them to cd/dvd however you still need a harddrive to play xbox games on a 360,

halo 2 for example uses something in the range of 200-400mb to play on a 360 and the map packs still dont work

I treat people on how they treat my son, its my new yard stick, I don't count anymore. Samm's parents adore my son and his grandad(who is actually Samm's stepdad not real dad)revolves his world around Daniel(my son). I had some good fortune this year so I wanted to get them something better than pants and a dressing gown, just for this year. Next year they will get pants.

But to be fair even Samm questioned if it was too much but I insisted.

Another simple question - what's the optical cable setup like? Is it fixed to the HD Component lead pack or is it a seperate thing you can replace? 3m is fine to plug in to my projector but I'll need a much longer optical cable to go to my amp. Is it possible to buy a replacement optical cable and plug that in along side all the others?

Also, is there any way to get it to play music and video from windows shares (like you can do with Xbox Media Centre) without having stupid gay windows media centre edition installed on your pc?
