Oki time has come when i need to purchase a new laptop, but i duno where to start as im not particularly up-to-date on the latest.
So..
I have near £1000 to spend on it, ideally able to run 2 daoc accounts.
What things should i look out for?
Any good ones worth buying that people use themselves?

Im no expert on whats currently available, but I can tell you youll probably be limited by the graphics card, so start by looking for one with the best gfx card in your price range thats probably what you want.

Well within your price. As stated in previous post look at the Graphics Card and make sure it has at least 128 Mb. Either the new Radeon 9700 / 9800 (new) Series mobility offerings are by far the best right now. The Geforce offering is currently the mobile version of the Geforce 2!!!

Go to Tom's Hardware or Bjorn 3D sites for specific reviews on chips.

Good luck and don't buy :twak: Compaq.

don't buy acer either cauz their customer support is worse than goa's. if you got problems, and with acer you will have problems you better be prepared to wait for months and months and spend hours on the phone listening to boring music...

Work got me a Toshiba Tectra M2

I didnt ask or get a choice - it was just "heres your new laptop"

Luckily it has a Geforce FX chipset, and to be honest it handles DAOC, SI and ToA extreamly well, i think it cost around £900 but only comes with 512MB you would definetly want 1GB for 2 accounts

If i was buying one for myself, this would be it :) great little thing

Dell inspiron 9100 = more bang for your buck.

i use an inspiron and will be buying another after crimbo.

I just ugrade my inspiron 8200 to 1gig of ram and it easily runs 2 accounts, the 9100 is even better, but u will need that 1 gig of ram reagrdless of lappy

ty :) i will prolly buy the inspiron 9100, a lil pricey as they are and only have a Radeon 9700 128mb but it should be fine :).

One question tho, i noticed on the website there was no mention of a internal floppy disk drive and wired network card, do these come in as standard?

IIRC they don't come with floppies these days (can buy a usb one pretty cheap if u need it), but it will have a built in 10/100 network card and Dell true wirless B+G card built in also)
