tbh money is just a medium to remove the disadvantages of bartering (ie if you have an apple and want an orange you'd have to find someone with an orange who wanted an apple = Hard! but if you sell your apple for cash, then you can buy an orange for cash = easy! ). High prices don't change much since it also means you sell your own items for higher too.. maybe that 5p will buy you a lot more on hib/excal than on alb/pryd, but you'll have to work harder to get that 5p in the first place too...
The only one's who high prices would negatively impact are pople who get their cash without ever trading items (merely by farming things) but now with toa all mobs nearly drop scrolls and such so really there's very very few people who can farm without gaining trading items, so high prices are not a factor...
