8% passive damage>>>chance to procc a heal.

Your choice though, but i would try get a guard of valour and save cash if i were you.

Get guard of valour/battler/malice and a sun diamond.

Then you have 8/9/9 bonuses from only 3 artifacts, only one that's awkward to lv out of those 3 is malice.Then you got enough imbue points to fit +25 str overcap in possibly too(which is 6% more damage for a merc roughly).
