Right, wow site was detailed but shit and totally not to the point.

What is the point of wow pvp? I know you get honor which buys items but is tht it? Don't you get abilities to buy like daoc?

Furthermore, does my honor points go after a certain time?

Can someone run through the whys for wow pvp so I know what exactly I am fighting for.

rep avalible. :>

Imo WoW honor system doesn't have a point. New items aint that interesting than abilities.

-> DAoC is better! ^^

you lose ranks if you dont play afaik, to keep the top rank going you have to pretty much play 24/7.

I dont play wow for the pvp myself, i play it to get away from the stress of pvp.

WoW honour points degrade over time.

im by no means an expert (only played for a while and didnt do PvP) but as i understand it you get titles, and equipment/armour sets etc for WoW PvP.

i think i also vaguely remember a friend of mine mentioning that they we're gonna change their PvP system in the upcoming expansion, and maybe stop the honor points degrading.

fun fighting other players ?

you mostly get equiptment as rewards in the long run, some by faction (doesn't decay) other stuff for your current ranking (decays).

But the system is getting an overhaul when The Burning Crusade add-on goes live. No decay there then. Nothing definite yet afaik though.

Aye the honor points will stop degrading at some point in a new patch - think then it will be like RP's in DAOC ... other than that - dunno - I just like the battlegrounds for running about n whacking stuff :)

the honor system sucks, but that fact will be irrelevant soon since its flying out of the door completely, with the expansion there will be a more daoc-like system...

The better equipment, the more you win.

Really, the pvp kinda sucks to be honest. Id much prefer world pvp only with no bg's it would be fun then to be honest, but people mainly stick queueing for AV etc.

If you can play your class well with resonable gear (a few epix) you can compete well, but you will find that people with uber gear, will beat you alot =]

So, by this reasoning.

I'm best off waiting for this new patch before I startpvping to the max ^^

Thanks for replies guys. Rep handed out as usual ^^

Depends what you want from PvP

If you want rank 14 now and don't want to pvp for 10-23 hours a day (depending on server/faction) then certainly wait for TBC, getting to rank 10/11 isn't really time consuming though.

Only if you play every free hour you got. With the clustered battlegrounds, the difference between powergamers and casuals became even bigger.
Seen one guy with 700k+ Contribution points on Skullcrusher ... and just ranking 4 :eek7:
The 100-200k CPs I currently can get together barely keep me on Rank 8.

played wow alot.. pvp'ed even more... had a UD rogue some epics from molten core etc etc.. in the beggining it was nice cause the more you pvp'ed the more the different showed from items e.g crap loads of stamina and agility on rogue thus more survival and better overall dmg.

BUT(!) after BWL+QUIRAJ ( the new 40-men instances) pvp went like this : you had to pvp 15hours/day to keep rank+ spend atleast 5 hours on instances because pvp items where crap comparing to inctance epics... some guilds on alliance part of server which farmed those instances had way better equip than i did at full blue geared from rank 10 items .. i saw rogues with 5.5k hp.. happy pve rogues for example that went to school in morning and farmed instances at afternoon... ,
then desided to go pvp and BOOM! suddenly my rogue would be a 2 shot from a happy elf..

and even if i was better , lets say more skilled from some of em , they would still win cause i haad less hp and less dmg

which ofc was crap..

i got dissapointed in wow rvr system cause i didnnt even have to rvr to be competitive... just farm instances 8/hours per day and i would be the leader of them all :)

altho getting to rank 14 was same as beating BWL.... farm farm farm with a good 10-15 man grp which new what to do.. same like imstances at pve

my gro which was ok and we won most og the time we didnt even make kills on pvp.. just get the flag 3 times or keep 4 farms for 10 mins ... in my case was afk guarding the flag or the first farm ..

:puke:

i feel that i went offtopic.... :):)

nvm DAoC is a far more better and rewarding game

yep thats the meaning of wow... better epix >> easier win

daoc is exactly the same in that aspect :p
the more you pvp, the higher your rr, the more toys and i-win buttons you have
Before the easymode patches, people who put the effort in got the better artifacts and items, to an extent this is still present but the difference is reduced due to everyone having access to the prevously "out of reach" items

Only difference being the daoc reward system is better (soon to be changed in wow) and i used to find daoc pvp to be a challenge, but thats gone out the window a couple patches ago where they seem to be making daoc into a button mashing contest of who has the most ammount of abilities up. But then saying that, daoc was never intended to be a small scale game, it was for "epic battles", and epic battles are done by casual gamers who dont want to learn the trade so to speak (according to mythic) so they are slowly removing all the things that made daoc a challenge
Dont agree?
read the patches and see how much content they have actually removed, and how many things they have added to make it easier for people in pvp

that main pvp problem in wow, is that it's far too arcady imo. It needs some free-roam pvp, so it won't get repetitive,

i kinda agree but WoW is even more buton mashing contest... and requires far less skill to win than daoc does...

i as a rogue (sword spec at a time)(and if i wasnt spotted first) i could killed any class before they even got the chance to go out of stun... as a rogue i loved it... but seen my friends playing other classes such as lock and priests and shamies that was frikkin anoying.. and in wow does matter how many abilities you have up...

IF i had every cooldown abil up and some item cooldowns up i could win against 6k hp tank without em even have a chance to to do anything.. and i mean it.. even from skilled tanks and i was rank 10 with some blue and 2-3 epic from motlen core which seem to be worst and worst with every 40-man-instance they added from patch to patch..

being stun-chained-killed is for laughs only ( at least from my pov as rogue , and its only 1 aspect of the pvp i know , but still...)

daoc will always be better from wow and requires you to be more skilled to win ,even against some i-win-classes such as 3-chambering-i-killed-you-cause-i-rox-the-box-warlocks :)

not a whine agains lock dont get me wrong there :)

no its not.. imo atleast.. cause all players that go into rvr witha decent template and depending on class have same arties and same toa rogs etc etc.. only thing that makes difference is realm ranks which imo is easy lets say till rr6 but after that you have to go rvr more and more and with good grps etc etc..

meaning is : if you give me an rr12 sorc to play i still wont be able to kill staj cause i think he is far more skilled than me even if we have same arties and rog's (altho now is a metter of class)

that is a bit different from farming 5 instances in a 6 day program...

daoc was like this for a long time tho, its all the rescent changes that have changed that :), for better or worse depending on your pov. Whether Blizzard will go down the same route, who knows

i think your argument about not being able to kill staj is flawed, a better example would be could you kill stajj if he was rr2 and you were rr10. The answer is yes unless you have never played the game before

I agree with you that daoc has more "skill" involved at the moment, but that also is slowly changing

Well like I said it depends on your server.

My old server the set group I was in the leader had 1.7 million CP a week WITHOUT the holiday bonuses, no one would get rank 14 unless he let them.
Whereas on the server I play now, horde only needs 600-700k/week to maintain standing 1, nevermind hold onto their rank.

Heh. so you're saying he had like 273k honor/day? Sorry, but it's not possible.

If you do wsg 12 hours a day, with a farming team winning EVERY game(not very likely to keep doing that forever, so even less honour than this) you get 138240 honour points/day. This equals 967680 honour a week. This is if he win every game within 8 mins, get 0 hk, turn the marks in. He needs another 9 dedicated people doing the same, since you can't do this in random groups. You need to be up against 0 farming teams, cause you won't win in 8 mins vs them. You get a bit more with hk's, but you don't get 130000 more. :)

If you do ab a bit more you could get more honour sure, but not enough. And you still need the manpower for it.

-----

The current honour system is shit, I'm grinding my mage through it atm and it's horrible. Getting low ranks with good rewards(7 - 10) isen't hard though if you feel you got time for it. The honour system will be upgraded indeed in the next patch. However that's the expansion patch which won't be here for 2 months or so. Details about the new honour system.

Wow pvp is all about fun and items, not abilities like in daoc. However the items are alot more powerfull in wow and makes a very very big differance if someone got rares and their opponent got epics. There is a very good post about the current honour system here. It's very detailed and got details you'll never need, unless you plan to grind honour before TBC.
