lol, now thats the true daoc way to look at it ;) if you think standing infront of a forge pressing a random number is more fun .. well, obviously you've never tested the system to see how it works, i've never had to wait for someone to mine or pick a herb in 52 levels 17days 17hours. :twak: but ok, gl zerging keeps and camping docks /thumbs_up

I think Daoc population will hardly change atall with the release of wow retail. Ive been doing /who etc quite alot recently, well i do it everyday and i can roughly tell that numbers have rised in Midgard ( i except a similar rise in other realms) over a period of 2-3 months. I believe that most the people who are going WoW have quit alrdy and thus i except a small population change. Some who moved WoW will come back and more will be reattracted by catacombs, aswell as this catacombs makes it easier for new people starting the game.

A few guilds and people have returned, for example FC is revived and DH seem to be back kinda, i hope :) Many new rvr guilds have formed aswell out of the dust created at the start of NF. So long live daoc :)

difference is crafters over 1000 in daoc have taken a mass amount of hours standing pressing a number, i've capped my herbalism skill and in total i've probably spent under 15minutes standing still to do this, and i'm getting xp at the same time. obviously it's not just the blind who can't see.

Anyway, seems the current FOTM in DAoC is to hate WoW with a passion.
The past 6 months or so the current FOTM have been to hate DAoC and praise the not even finished WOW, so I say we have the right to turn it around a bit dont you say?

why would people get bored? loads of specialist crafts to take up, plenty of dungeons to raid for uber items, other classes to roll, battlegrounds comming soon! people will come back to daoc, but i'd take a guess at under 25% of them

Crafting? Are you mad??? :)

Hope WoW aint gonna affect server population too much , I won't be playing WoW because it wasnt quite my game when I tested it , cant stand the graphics and all teh annoying gnomes around ;P , the only sad thing is that lot of people I know are playing WoW =/. I miss the times when exca had 3k+ players on it though , but guess its never gonna be like that again. Must say I was very bored and tired of daoc after NF release but 1.71 was a great patch which made the game very playable again, still having fun!

Long live Camleot! :D

i wish! if someone had said to me i have seen the future for you, and in WoW you will look forward to a number of good days crafting and trading in world of warcraft, i would have laughed and called them crazy, but it is true .. also .. Auction house! A magical place like housing zone, but you click the item you want, the money goes to the person selling it, the item goes to your mail box, situated right outside the auction house! No long runs to the location (or house) of the item you require ... and listen to this bit .....

NO ZONEWALL IN THE AUCTION HOUSE!!!! It's true homies!

only down side, it's laggy atm, but nothing compared to running into the zerg :p

only problem atm imo, its the dir mythic keeps pushing the game, clustering seems totally retarded even tho the hole idea is good. US ppl screaming zergwarfare like never before :|

but then again its US ppl, so maybe just better to wait and see for ourselfs :D

wow will evolve just like daoc did, blizzard won't stop adding content to the game or anything.. i doubt many people will come back, but im glad that some people are going there.

pretty fed up with the 'im going wow anyways' attitude, daoc can be great fun, and the pvp is unmatched even in NF. the people who like wow can go play that, the people who enjoy daoc can stay here. its that simple :p

Tried WoW, didn't like it even though i loved WC 1/2/3.

And knowing blizzard in a few months it will be hacked to bits, if you think radar in daoc is/was bad its nothing compared to blizzard games, i mean they even had hacks in the US beta test.

agreed. but who knows, game been out 5-6 hours, and its blizzard, it aint looking good for mythic ;|

Well...the euro version is completely up to date with the US version (not staggered like mythic/GOA has always been), so you're effectively playing the product of two months release.

I'm not saying WoW's PvP/RvR definately won't get better - if there's anyone to do it, its Blizzard. But frankly I think that the fact that they havent made any fundamental changes to the system in the past two months, means they're generally happy with the game, and its flavour is going to remain basically the same - brilliant PvE, dead boring PvP.

The Fact that so many people that despite DAOC and are 'retired' still post here shows that the DAOC the community has been quite strong.

I hope that fact will cause some players to return from playing wow after a while, but the longer it takes for them to get back to daoc the more likely they will stick with WOW. Eventually the WOW community will grow strong(er)
The community is the main factor for succes for a MMORPG, Im certain that the retirement of some guild in daoc have caused a chain reaction, what also plays a part in this all is the sometimes what depressive forum posts about the future of daoc (and im not saying they are unrealistic).

Besides I think many people have chosen to play WOW just to show their dissatisfaction with the current state of daoc, probably and mainly caused by the new rvr system. (mainly a system to support everyone to be able to participate in rvr and to move the focus abit more towards siegeweapons and keeptakes) Ultimately this caused rvr groups to move to WOW. Leaving relatively more people that like PVE (thats why there is noticably less rvr action then before, not necessarily big decrease in population...which might come now that WOW has been released)

The question is can mythic turn the tide, on short term I would deffinately say no, due to the fact that many people are determined to play wow. Thats also why I dont think Catacombs will bring more population back to daoc servers. I think mythic has underestimated the impact of NF (NF initially launched to realise mythics intentions with DAOC --> rvr more accesable for everyone, is not a bad idea, but they have failed to see the impact of moving the focus of the game, which is quite a shift: new frontiers, new rvr abilities, more focus on keeps and towers)

The combination of rvr guilds not liking the new intention of NF and their influence on the community is heavily underestimated. A new server with /copychar and oldfrontiers might give a solution for those that dispite NF (or make it a combined BG for all server, so all are able to battle in the old frontiers)

i dont know how strong will the WOW community be.

after playing beta im confused about this mmo rpg thing in wow. somewhere i feel that game is not for multiplayer, i mean u dont depend on others, u can solo, u dont need a grp u can go on alone. yesyes epic mobs+instances needs grps but playing the game doesnt make u to make a grp or speak with others. even the 'grpmini' is soo sh*tty after playing support classes in daoc and u know u want to see, a 'grpmini' where u can know whats happeneing, well i dont see sh*t on those little bars in wow.

ofc it may change etc but personally i dont think wow is not creating a mmo rpg community.

Like many others I'm trying - took a quick look on a friends beta and on first inspection it loks very very nice. However DAOC accounts will remain active, but I won't be buying cats - can't see the point. DAOC PvE is not fun - if I have to do it again then I'll go for the quickest option out there, but i won't be exploring PvE areas for the sake of it.

I guess tonight is going to be quiet in DAOC, but laggy as hell in WoW :)

I got a free account from work. Logged in, done a character, over 3000 ping on that server. I changed realm (realm = server in WoW) found one with decent ping, made a druid. Logged out after a while (boredom factor was rising a lot), then I couldn't get back on that server due to overpopulation (220th place in que!!!).

Anyway, I guess it'll be fun for people that like pve, or even the pvp that will become available, but definitely not my cup of tea.

GOA had a bad rep back in the day, they're doing a good job these days. Recent lag was a pain but: the ToA part was mythics fault, some of it was OT's fault and it got fixed.

Account Creation Pages Down
11/02/2005
We are aware that some players are facing problems when creating their accounts, especially with regards to the process of payment validation. Due to the heavy load on the system, we are therefore forced to take those pages down temporarily. While the pages are down, those players who have already created an account can continue playing the game. We are investigating the situation and will come back to you with more information as soon as we have it.

 wtg blizzard. Are they really GOA in disguise?

i bought daoc purely for the rvr. i rolled a char i thought/hoped would do well in rvr, my merc. rvr is the _only_ reason i still play daoc. until WoW offers a more satisfying pvp option, as good or better than daoc, i wont be playing it.

i would rather wait 2 hours b4 i log in game and play with no lag then log in instantly and have 5s delay in everything i do!!!

u cant compare daoc with wow at least not yet, daoc had 3+years of evolvement! think of how daoc was when it was released and compare it with wow then tell me which game has more perspective.....

long live brynja bridge...

i played wow for a bit in beta. I was impressed. But i just could not be arsed to play it.

It will pull me in and make me an addict again. It would be like looking in the mirror 3-4 years ago cept im 3-4 years older.

bottom line is Wow is nothing different to daoc. (better) virtual rewards for real life investment of time. That addiction is summin I can do without. I just like loggin onto daoc, going out to rvr killing a few things and loggin when i get bored (usually after 30 mins to 1 hour). I refuse to repeat the last 3-4 years with a different game tbh.
