WoW - Good for casual players?

Since GCSEs and the such next year, I won't have as much time to play MMORPGS. However, I want to play one. I've tried WoW on a private server and I like the look of it very much.

The thing is, could I achieve much playing it 1-2 hours a day on weekdays and once a day on weekends?

Please don't move this, I want off-topicers' opinions because you guys are all very sexy ^^

from what i know about wow is pretty hardcore raiding , all the ppl i know sit like 5 hours raiding pretty much each day with their guild.. But if your only going to pvp i dont think you need that much time but i really duno

If you wanted a more casual MMORPG then I would probably say that Guild Wars is the way to go. You don't need to worry about paying a fee for the short amount of time you will be playing. Don't have to worry about grouping up with others as you can make a band up filled with NPC's. Each combat area is an instance area.

Well, I do like the look of WoW and I hear about all this raiding etc. but is it necessary like ML's? Can't I just put on some set which I buy from farming easier mobs then just PVP?

you have to have decent armor i think to have chance in pvp an all the decent drops , drops in instaces you have to be like 40 ppl to raid an it takes hours you can also get armor if you pvp enough but you have to get a speciel rank to buy it from the npc's an think it will be hard getting there since you lose your rank if you dont play or something like that..

havent played the game so i could be very very wrong this is all something i pickt up by looking ppl play an listning to alle the wow geeks at school talking about the game 24-7

wow seems fairly casual friendly at lower levels, if you're not dead set on pwning at level 60 you can probably play it casually.

However it sounds like level 60 is 6 hour raids that make ToA look casual friendly

Theres an absolute mass of games there, i tried a couple of the MMORPGS quickly.

Mu Online seemed kinda interesting, I've been playing that a little on a free server.

Like Eeben said, you have to do alot of raiding for the BEST armour. However if you just do 1-2 hours of pvp a day, you will soon find yourself getting to rank 10 which will give you a full set of good PVP armour. Bugz if you do start playing WoW message me and play on my server, ill help you get into the game if you want

PVP sounds good since I love fighting in homeland etc. but am I going to get ganked 24/7?

well, it IS pretty casual friendly, up until a certain level. like, u can totally level up casually without any problems, and even do some of the minor dungeons casually. its the high end dungeons thats a bitch as a casual. but then again, theres always the faction reputation gears in the pvp zones. or even the pvp rank gears, but then again u need to be somewhat hardcore pvp'er to get the ranks for it...

/edit: some of this might be a tad wrong as i havent been playing WoW for a while, so dont trust me to much.

Well, you won't get ganked in homeland because starting zones will be your own territory which means enemies can't attack unless you attack them. Only in contested territory will be when your enemies can attack you, which aint till you get a bit higher anyway. And if you go into the enemies territory your asking to get ganked really
But yeah PVP is alot better than Normal servers, and don't worry about getting ganked, you won't unless you attack them first.

PvP Server = Ganked constantly by higher levels whilst grinding to 60, combined with fucked up outdoor raids on a high populated server

PvE Server = All-round goodness!

As for the initial question, I surely wouldn't play WoW casually but only because I can't stand not being in the best gear Blizzard are constantly adding more content in terms of gear and solo availability for the casual players though.

Well, about half of the classes are good solo. I currently play a warlock and its good solo. But there are others just as good such as Warrior, Hunter, Druid and Paladin. I would say Hunter is probably the best solo for pve and pvp, but warlock is good too (They use alot of Dots). Also Hunters get to wear chain at 40 which is good.

Oh and even Rogues are pretty good solo. Because with First Aid in WoW its so easy with Melee classes and Pet classes. There is pretty much no downtime at all with them.

The gear you're able to get as a casual player is good enough, if you're a decent player, to be able to defeat others with better gear 1v1. However, what many people don't seem to realise, is that WoW never really has been a PvP game, and is far more PvE focused.

Kinda disagree.
If you don't play often your guild will lose it's ladder position, if you play casual you will probably not even get access to a decent guild.
Means you either have to do PuG Arena's or PuG HoH which (just like DAoC PuG's) plain sucks.

I don't even think there's a MMORPG you can play "casual" as most of them are kinda forcing you to play much by giving certain rewards for goals you reach (which ofc takes time) and for instance with WoW you need to keep playing to keep your rank iirc and same in GW and most other MMORPG's.
Think you really need to try a FPS if you want a game where you can log on and play for 1-2 hours and leave again without falling behind as to say.

Actually, after 4 years of DAOC and the very unbalanced and un-fun stress nightmare that RvR turned into - WoW is a very pleasant change. It's a lot better than I ever thought it would be; there are still some things I don't like - Gnomes, the low-res building textures - but overall it's a very fun and immersive game. Many of the quests are very well-written, there's little to no random mob-camp grinding because almost all of what you kill is determined by the overall quest structure and storylines.

WoW is pretty decent for casual gaming, you can do ok without having to play all day. Just don't roll a Warrior, that class is way too gear dependant.

If you still roll a warrior, you'll need a load of potions and grenades for PvP

EvE is good for the casual gamer, ive been playing it "casualy" although it can be a tad boring, mining etc, but I just play football manager in the background

As others in the thread have stated, you can probably play wow casually if you can accept your gear will be vastly inferior to those who raid/pvp a lot.

If your intests are in pvp you should probably roll a shadowpriest, preferably undead.

Progress quest
and a bunch of others...

...so i don't know much. But if people say Guildwars is "casual", they obviously haven't played through those 6 hour instas...

But yeah, it's good 'cause it's free. But WoW is casual as well, it's funny that way, you can play alone and be a happy rpg'r or you can go on those mulzilliongear thingies when you have more time.

I'd say it's good for a 2h/day gaming, if you play with your rules and don't listen to the ubercrap the "elites" spew.

I've decided I'm going to start up on a PVP server as a Hunter and a Priest. This should fit me well since I like to PVP and PVE and I won't have to wait till BG's to get a good taste of the action.

Although I could live without the PVP, as WoW's PVE is simply superb (professions that are fun, rare and elite mobs, unique drops, fast exp, excellent quests etc.), It'd still be good fun.

Should have the money in the bank on Monday and hopefully delivered by Wednesday. That means as soon as I get home I can hopefully start playing it ))

WoW for sure then, out of those two. You can spend a week just exploring...and it looks pretty cool too with the options up. I'm currently having a blast in Desolace, like a surreal desert of silvery sand with huge beasties roaming around and the occasional demon...

Sounds great. All I need is an uber-specced system to run it now...

(BTW you seen those ads at the bottom of this thread - $199 to power level you from lvl 1-60. Whats the point ? LOL The whole idea is to level yourself and have fun doing it !)
