Would you take a test that tells you how long you have to live?

Would you take the test?

Could be good, I mean if it predicted that you were gonna die in a plane crash next week then you'd cancel the flight.

rofl erm, yes I'd want to because then I could enjoy stuff while I'm still about to do it rather than going 'holiday? Sure I'll do it next month though as a bit busy this week...' /die *bugger*

...but then I'd worry about it if I knew I'd be so busy trying to organise everything and worrying about whether it'll go well, and if I only knew the rough date I'd be a gibbering wreck in the lead up always making sure I didn't have comedy pants on and things.

Where's the 'not sure' option?

There's lots of very good reasons not to. I'd want to (it'd be cool, just from a passing interest point of view) but I think I'd have to say no.

You can't unlearn what you'd "learn" and what you'd learn would be so unreliable as to be worthless anyway.

I wouldn't, otherwise you'd just spend your whole life knowing you've got up until that point...kinda sucky.

Suppose the test tells you that you have approximately 35 years left to live. Would it significantly change the way you live you life? If so, when would you start making changes / plans? Would you try to prolong that age & start a more healthier lifestyle? Or would it play on your mind as the years ticked by as you realise all the things you wanted to do are passing you by?

What about if someone very close took the test before you? Would you want to know how long your parents / spouse / son / daughter / brother / sister has to live? How would you react if the test gave out a short lifespan figure? Ignore it?

That test is overpriced shite anyway - best guide to how long you could live is your parents and grandparents assuming they didnt die in accident/world war etc.

Edit - also long life does not equal good life - say you live to a hundred but spend your last 30 in a wheelchair stuck in a home or something. Additionally if you live too long you get to see everyone you care for die.

The CEO of the company said today on the radio that the price would come down as the product is scaled over time. But if you REALLY wanted to know, you'd pay the £400.

I wouldn't want to know.

To para-quote Kryten, the brain can't deal with knowing it's own future. (imo)

If you had to deal with it, you would.

At school (long time ago) there was a kid who had a hole in his heart who knew he wasn't going to see his teenage years, yet he always had a smile on his face. Broke your heart to see him TBH.

Well no I wouldn't, without going into too much detail my cousin has just been diagnosed with cancer. I don't want to know her prognosis.

I'm not sure I'd want to know. And you'd be screwed if you did find out and they got it wrong haha
