Would you rather have an "utopia" or "anarchy"?

I'd rather live in...

So, two choices for future(no semi-choosing) and you have the power to choose. Both futures have ups and downs. They don't include everything, but you can imagine. Aka, use brain to think picture:

"Utopia":

+ Everything is fine. Everything is good. No violence, no murders, no harm to other man, no weapons, no wars. Nothing of that bad stuff. Technology has come to a suitable level, with no needs to improve as everyone is contempt and happy.

- Everything is forbidden. Meat, cursing, alcohol, drugs, sex without breeding purposes, music, etc. forbidden. You fill the rest. Think equilibrium meets demolition man, without Sly.

"Anarchy":

+ Total freedom. Can have sex just as you want, can use any substance, can do whatever the f*ck you like really, with no interferance. and it's all, even more amazingly, NORMAL. Noone would even blink at you for running nakid around town with a thailand hooker strapped on your huuhaa. Technology is REALLY hightech, and it's everywhere, for everyone.

- No laws, no rules, no order. Anyone and everyone lives by and for one thing, themselves. Everyone and anyone can have a gun, and in a world like that, most do. Think cyberpunk meets mad max with big a** cities and organbanks.

people seem to have a very uninformed of what anarchists actually believe.

Anarchist Federation - Organising for Resistance | AFED | AF a place to start on getting 'educated'.

Anarchist Federation - Links | AFED | AF a bunch of other good resources.

not that i would consider myself an anarchist, but i agree with a lot of their beliefs. though i find most traditional anarchist core beliefs too ideological for me. still, i would far rather live in an anarchist society than within some of the more (shall we say) successful political ideologies.

That's why i said "anarchy", if you have another more fitting single word for what i mean, use that.

Don't go doubting my knowledge on things just because some word is "trademarked" by others.

That's the key difference, those who believe in Anarchy, and those who believe in Anarchism. Anarchism is a form of idealism who believe in their own utopia of equality. Anarchy just means no rules.

Can you tell where my symapthies lie here? :)

I don't think thats what the question is here though, it's more a question of polar opposites, would you want to live in big brother central, or in a world where everyone can do what the hell they want. Give me freedom every day of the week :)

I will take Utopia. Can always crack one off if I get the urge so the lack of regular sex wouldn't be the end world.

Freedom is over-rated, just like Lily Allen. ;) :p

Exactly what i said.

I'd like to hear a better single word term for what i mean, then anarchy, though, for future reference.

I'd go with the "anarchy" world, just because i'd rather die violently with a whisky in my hand and a woman on my dang then go out peacefully with a lily up my butt.

If you do not know then consider yourself lucky, you have not had to endure her 'singing'. Do yourself a favour and forget the name, do not go to google and search for it. Please, seriously, just don't. ;)

fair enough! i didn't actually assume that you didn't know, it's just that the two words are (obviously) often equated together closely.

Aye, and fair enough point you've made. though i think my use of the word, as in anarchy=no rules, was quite accurate *grin*

I would go for what you listed as "anarchy" - I'd not live in a world without freedom.

I would prefer a utopia in the what I see as the true meaning of the word though - good standard of life and freedom (I'm not questioning your use of the word there, just saying that my version of a utopia is possibly different to what you would see it as :))

Well as long as there are people on this world i think anarchy is the way we will go, people are too selfish to allow us utopia.

But Anarchists can go screw themselves. They are the first ones to go if we go the way of anarchy. And the way some anarchists behave today they are no better than the skinheads and nationalists. Just two sides of the same coin.

sorry, but those 2 definitions dont have equal amounts of +'s and -'s imo. assuming the anarchy would involve alot of murdering, alot of wars and ofcourse oppression when possible? rather have utopia than anarchy (although your anarchy seems like a fun and fuzzy anarchy)
