...fat or obese?

I thought there was more stigma attached to obese but fat was more directly insulting. Pastry positive is my favourite term.

And I don't care if you are thin as a rake. Pretend you ate all the pies.

Obese sounds like you have a major problem.
Being fat on the other hand means to me that it's more controllable...

edit: I'm not fat or obese so either is equally as bad as the other :p

I have about half-a-Will extra body mass. Fat is ok by me, but Obese always sounds like you have a terminal illness (which technically may be true, meh)

the wording is a bit suspect - perhaps change the poll answers to simply fat, obese

Are you accusing a poll on the internet of selection bias?

Oh look more professionals thinking they understand human psychology.

Aside frmo the obvious people who suffer from illnesses which can cause weight gain, there really is just a shit load of fat people who just enjoy eating food and doing fuck all exercise.

It's their own choice at the end of the day, I've had enough watching girlfriends go from size 8 to size 16 and then yoyo diet for years without actually losing anything and constantly telling everyone they are really going to do something about it. But then they get a craving for food and convince themselves that they will start their diet again tomorrow and blame everything under the sun other than their own will power.

Fat or Obese it matters not if yuor after a healthy life style and want to try and extend it as best you can by how you look after yourself, you really don't want to be either category, nor that of someone morbidly thin.

I actually prefer a female with a bit of meat on her, give me a size 10-14 bird any day of the week over these new size 0 birds. I want something to touch and feel, if I wanted to fuck a skeleton my old school would be missing it's human bone set!

I was going to make a pithy and sarcastic comment about Anne Milton not being a health professional at all. But it turns out she is a former nurse, so that doesn't work.

(And size 0 is American, its actually a UK size 6 but that doesn't sound as catchy)

If someone is over weight the doctor should be able to tell them they are because it's fact without hurting their feelings!

Thats me!
I was a size 10 before children, now am a 16...but fully aware its my own willpower at fault. I keep fairly fit, but have a caaaaaake and alcohol weakness. Eat healthily for a while and then think 'fuck it that brownie... doughnut... cream slice looks yummy' and I scoff it... and another....

I am tall and curvy with big boobies and hips - even if I was dead I could not be size 0. I make an effort with my appearance, but I guess the bottom line is- I am fat.
Think my BMI is 25 - so could even be obese maybe, not sure of the cut off??
Its weird tho, as I feel firm, not wobbly and still get admiring glances.

(OMG maybe they are only from men who like 'chubbies'.)

I get told I am voluptuous -guess that is a nicer word for fat:p
Fat or obsese -its kind of the same really.

Are you happy Russell? If so then it does not matter, it's the people that loathe themselves yet won't take advice or help to get the weight off.

Nothing more of a turn on than a woman with curves!!!!

I am happy generally, really happy in myself. Only made to feel self conscious when I hear men say things like 'I could never date a women over a size 12'. And I think 'oooh.. thats me out then -Oi whats wrong with me!!'

Obese sounds much, much worse. It has serious health risk connotations attatched, not to mention it means you're not just fat, you're really fat ;)

Quick fix for you, replace the internal thought "what's wrong with me!!" with "my God, you really are quite a fuckwit". Then externalise that thought with a swift kick to his balls.

Sorted.

the entire BMI thing linked to words that mean something to humans is silly.

I work with a body builder. He's a massive lad, but not very tall. According to the BMI calculator, he's obese. In reality he has something like 6% body fat. That's an extreme ofc, but hey.

that is why I said it depends on her body fat, BMI works for most people, it's a handy way for people to check if they are overweight or not. If you are a body builder, you know that BMI will not apply to you and you'll be generally aware of your body fat and diet.

my answer is still valid, according to the general BMI table

imo the table itself is not valid: if you're in the middle you don't need the table, if you're at the edges you also do not need the table because you will know you're at the edge, either because a minor breeze blows you away, or you can't see your feet. imo.

Playing devils advocate, as my g/f is a bit of a porker (as am I, occasionally) - I don't think there's anything necessarily bad about saying you wouldn't date someone who's over a size 12.

Lets face it, the person you go out with has a huge effect on your own behaviour, if she eats unhealthily and doesn't exercise then there's a knock on effect to your own well-being.

Choosing someone who eats well and looks after themselves may be a good idea in the long run?

There's a difference between saying "I wouldn't date someone who doesn't look after themselves" and "I wouldn't date someone who's over a size 12". For one, size 12 isn't exactly huge (as far as I'm aware, womens fashion isn't my strong point) and it does stink of a very shallow viewpoint.

Granted, potentially the guy was simply saying something more reasonable but chose his words poorly, but I *very* much doubt that's the case. I'm quite happy to stick with the assumption that he was a shallow, self-absorbed ****. It's very rarely not the case, in my experience.

I don't disagree with you particularly. If he'd said "I won't date fat birds" then the sentiment would still stand too.

However, from a personal standpoint - I was 12.5 stone when I met my current g/f and am now happy if I keep it below 14 - she eats shit all the time and it's a fucking nightmare trying to keep up a healthy eating lifestyle when she only ever seems to want pie...

:)

My BMI is 21 and my BMP is 21. Reckons I am spot on but I have a beer belly. Hate it. Am I happy? Too right I am so I doubt I will change my lifestyle.

Without going too much into the whole discussion of "why iz peoples fats?", obese sounds ruder.

Fat ain't nice but it sounds like a fact, obesity is case sensitive afterall.

(Non fat, bit of a belly owning opinion)
