Eve online had a new patch yesterday that deletes the windows boot.ini file - amazing stuff eh - some peoples PC's will have to have the operating system re-loaded and god help them if they dont have a floppy drive!!!

Can anyone think of a worse MMO disaster?

Star Wars Galaxies anyone?

Easily the worst multimillion dollar MMO ever created.

Deletion of certain classes, SHITE launch damn i really hate SOE games they always do maintanence in GMT primetime.

Talk about no direction what so ever.

I warned most people on here about Dungeons & Dragons but the chimps still went out and bought it and loved it for a week until you realise the whole game is based in a fucking lame ass city.

I personaly think Vanguards launch sucked, bad coding, bugs that the devs couldnt fix but players could, realy bad memory leaks ect

Nothing compares to what CCP did with EvE though. Ive never played any MMO that made you computer unable to boot. Thankfuly most players had the know how needed and caught it before the Devs did, and got word out. But imagine if your a young kid playing EvE on the family PC, the chances of anyone knowing whats nackered it are slim. I see CCP being sued for repair costs from these familys, if they ever find out it was them.

I was going to sub to EvE on patch day, but had the sence to wait till the initial rush had gone. Otherwise that would of effected me. Not even going to consider subbing now.

The amazing stuff is that Windows per default allows the deletion of a so important file.

Sabotage - most likely what happened to CCP - is quite as common as a shit OS called Windows.

Dark and Light without a doubt. Was released in a pre alpha state and then months later after release it turned out they may not even own the "Ground Breaking" world technolodgy behind the game lol

if were talking pure failures i'm torn between Earth and Beyond and Auto Assault.

cant tell wich one of em closed faster then the other.

every other game mentioned here are stil running afaik so they can't be labeled as a "disaster".

I liked Earth and Beyond, so i'm thinking that one closing was a bigger disaster for me ;)

deleting classes 2+ years into a game that people had spent hours and hours putting into their character?

A train wreck that is Star Wars Galaxies

Everyone with a half-working braincell knew to not touch SWG.

Why? It had some great ideas - particularly the original jedi character concept being completely random.

I actually really enjoyed it for a long while - it was only lack of an endgame that made me move on (before the game re-design) and the fact that I was incredibly rich (once youve bought a bunch of everything where to go as a trader?) - now its just another level based mud - very sad :(

I don't remeber exactly, I only remember that everybody I knew said: stay away from it and after looking at the game development briefly I didn't touch it. I didn't play, so I actually can't say how the game was.

My old man's memory doesn't help I know, don't take any offence in what I said before - from reading various comments on random forums I actually believe that some had some good time in SWG.

The funniest thing about SWG was that it was at its most fun at launch then every patch/expansion made it less fun and less original - now I agree its dire!

The worst MMO I ever played was some german one that was pure pvp but badly implemented set in some futuristic world - Neocron - by god it was awful - the only good thing was the titties and even they got nerfed in the first patch :p

It was never exactly random, it was just no-one had figured it out and SoE kept it quiet for a lot longer than anyone thought they could have :)

The SWG Jedi forums on release must have been the most active online forum of all-time, thousands of people on at any one time. Once someone figured it out and the cat was out of the bag, the game lost something special imo. Before that event it was hands-down the best mmorpg of all time, nothing else comes close. What an end-game!!! How do you do it? No-one knows dude! Awesome :)

I loved SWG, the CU wasn't actually that bad really, by that time Jedi were everywhere allready.

Jedi holocrons telling you what to do to become a jedi is what ruined it - very silly too - obsessive folk would have spent years training all professions to get it :p

Yip, they had a really good thing going at release and held out a long time until finally they caved to the huge pressure of the jedi-wannabe community. Still, great until then!

I'd go with the eve one. although the daoc screenie reminded me of when there were group bugs on eu, we had the message come up (when we couldn't target or heal our group members) "think of it as daoc on hard mode)

Well for me its SOE and Star Wars Galaxies. Played 6-9 months, logged on after patch saw my char naked, and all inventory, skills, house, extractors gone. My char had turned into a naked n00b. Made a ticket, got it deleted, made another one got it deleted, 12th ticket that got deleted, i made a post on the forum about it, had my forum account banned. Made new ingame ticket asking what they where doin, now it had gone 2 weeks after the wipe. Still no answer, the answer i got for asking about what they where doin, was a ban. I know about 10 players that had the same treatment.

If thats true it's gotta be a contender. Pretty bad treatment of a paying customer.

Thing about the EvE issue is it was picked up almost instantly and rectified very speedily. From what im told by my buddies who still play, very few players actually got inconvenienced.

We arent really sure how many were effected - there was a lot on the forums but of course if people really shafted their pc and didnt have another they would be unable to complain.
