I think England managers should be paid on how they perform. I mean Capello has got 12mil and the only thing hes had to do is qualify us to the WC. How about saying, if you win us the WC, you earn 20mil, else you leave with some basic salary.

Im starting to think Capello may have fallen out with some of the squad. I think 90% of fans want Joe Cole to play yet hes not been heard of. I also thought it was dissapointing that he didnt stick with his guns and keep Green in the nets. Hes playing people out of positions and iirc Gerrard even said in a press conference that he wants to play behind the striker, yet he starts on the left.

We can slate the players for their performance all day, but something tells me the players dont want to perform for him, just like the French squad.

Edit: Its either that or Capello and England have a master plan and will plan crap till the big games come then pew pew pew

Expanding on Marc.

Stop putting ex-footballers straight into a Manager's/Coaching position.
Sure they may have a good or even a great understanding of (part of)the game, but that's only a small part of the job.
Make them learn something about the science of the physical side of training, learn various technique's to make other ppl learn something and most importantly people skills.
They gotta be able to put aside thier own ego they had as a footballer and keep the other little crybaby ego's happy, willing to learn stuff and accept some critique in order to make them and the team better.

Don´t you think that´s a bit too easy? Do you really think that exchanging the coach will make all your problems go away like immediately?
If players are playing badly just to make a statement against their coach IN A WORLD CUP while an entire world and an army of fans at home are watching them and while some of the best players of that team are too old to play another WC after this, then they´re truly unprofessional and deserve to get booted instead of the coach. I could follow and understand your logic if it was the premier league or something, but in this situation, I think your theory is way off the mark.

Like who?

2006 players

Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, Joe Cole, David James, Jamie Carragher, Michael Carrick, Aaron Lennon
Peter Crouch.

Euro 2004 players

David James, Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard, John Terry, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Ledley King, Jamie Carragher, Joe Cole, Emile Heskey.

Now in 6years, and our 3rd manager, not much has really changed imo. These players havent performed in a england shirt for years, but their still being played.

but really, who's better?

i think players like young shawcross and cahill should have been considered, and johnson shoul have gone instead of SWP but other than that thiers no english talent

Im not just talking about pure talent, but theres also a hunger from differant players, and we seem to lack hunger/desire to do anything in this world cup atm.

id of liked to see, huddlestone, young, johnson, bent, bently and zamora playing personally.

Im starting to think Capello may have fallen out with some of the squad.

I doubt its that, he appears too professional to do such a thing. Perhaps the meticulous instructions he gives his players is strangling the life out of their game? Perhaps players who are actually putting some effort in look at Lampard and Rooney walking about and doing feck all, yet continually being picked?

He sure needs to shake things up a bit, and that would include with his own managerial style and not just the formation that he puts the players into.

I also don't think that England, in general, are that bad overall. Certainly France and Spain have a higher standard of technical play but they're hardly forging ahead in terms of World Cups won. There is more to being a winning side than passing and controlling the ball, there are physical attributes and there are mental attributes. England have always had the latter two in spades.

England always produces when the chips are down and I think we'll see a backlash against Slovenia.

i dont think its a lack of desire so much as dispondantcy, gerrard played well against the usa, then got chucked out to the left wing v algeria

rooney and lampards passion do seem questionable atm from both games but every one else has played well or tried hard at some point

heskey is trying the hardest, unfortunatly he is shit xD

i dont think its a question of them not wanting to be thier, but i do think the formation should be built around your best players rooney up top alone as he does for united alot, gerrard playing CF as he does for liverpool, lampard playing AM as he does for chelsea barry anchoring as he does for man city, lennon taking players on and getting crosses in as he does for spurs ect ect, rather than saying, no we're playing a flat 4-4-2 deal with it

Take players like Scott Parker he might not be as good as Lampard but he would have put in twice the effort.

I agree.

Also in their clubs they have forign star players around them that makes them better, when you play alongside a great player you yourself strive to become better and push yourself harder. (1+1=3). I think Rooney was absolutly shite last night against Algeria and i consider him one of the best players in the world. IMO Capello should have swapped Rooney for Defoe at halftime and let Heskey work some more, atleast he showed some heart. That would also give Rooney something to think about and hopefully he will play with some more enthusiasm in the last game.

Agree with Marc 100% and I have also said it before, our grass roots football at academies is all about winning, this usually means taking the biggest/fastest players of an age bracket and letting them win matches purely on how much of an athlete they are as opposed to anyone with real skill or ability.

I got slated for in the other thread about Lampard, but my opinion stands strong, if he was as world class as everyone think he is he should be able to play as a central midfielder, but the fact remains, he can't tackle, he does not link up play well from Midfield.

We need the FA to come down hard on academies and start giving them quotas of some sort for advancing the technical players, the ones that can play the game WHEN their team has the ball, but they don't. Our movement off the ball is second rate. we got schooled against Japan two weeks ago they played triangles around us like we were teenagers.

We need a coach who is strong and strong enough to ignore what the media says. We need him to start playing the majority of our best players in their natural positions and then find the players to fit in around the others. I don't rate huddlestone highly, but I think if you stuck Lampard behind the striker and told Huddlestone to sit back and do the dirty work he would step up.

I would rather see Lampard behind Roony simply because Gerard is a much better centre midfielder than Lampard, so you get to play 3 people who are playing in a favourable position.

Wingers are a pure disgrace, SWP and Lennon can kiss my pearly white arse, lennon walking around with a fucking diamond the size of a golf ball in his fucking ear when he's training. He's done fuck all and is probably never likely too. Glen Johnson should be turned into a right winger, because he is fast, he has skill and he can deliver a final ball and finish. Lets find a replacement right back!!!!!!

Defoe only scores against gobbing teams as does crouch, Heskey as much as I see he works hard and what else he can do for the team just isn't good enough, an international player who plays in the premier league should not be tripping himself up on the ball regularly.

Bent and Zamora should have been there, as they both have an understanding of movement off the ball.

Rant off. England can lick my balls until Wednesday when I will cheer them on as always, in the hope they can scrape a win, which will no doubt create a new wave of we can do it, it's our turn bollocks from the players.

Oh yeah and finally. Can the commentators and fucking pundits stop telling me that Capello has a way of getting a second better half than the first half. It's not really fucking hard is it when your consistently fucking arse in the first half of every match, a fucking swimming teacher could get a fucking improvement in the second half, Fucking cocks.

Agree with marc mostly except even with all those players like xavi ect , spain managed to lose. The problem goes beyond england and is something i think almost all the big teams are suffering, maybe arrogance, maybe lazyness but for some reason the so called big teams mostly look shit this WC.

Spain loss was a one of against a lesser club whp parked the bus, Spain even then still created chances and dominated the game. We are not capable of doing that even when we are winning. But even Spain lack a plan B a Drogba style player who you can hit the ball up to and play off the scraps.

I'm not going to blame the players because most of them are out of position and only a fool would expect them to do well. If you have a whole team of players all underachieving it's pretty obvious tht the problem lies with the manager and the tactics.

I can't even be bothered making a list of Capello's mistakes because it's so fucking long.

What you talking about? Heskey doing a stepover/flip flap combination is awesome. Shame he crossed it into row Z straight after.

And yes, i'm well aware that playing Lampard in a two man midfield doesn't work. That doesn't mean you have to drop him, it means you have to sort your tactics out.

Hart
Johnson Carragher Terry Cole
Barry Lampard
Lennon Gerrard Cole
Rooney

There you go, there is our best formation and squad, everybody is in more or less their preferred position in which they play for their club.

I picked Joe Hart in goal because he's had the best season of English goalkeepers. Although young, he was beaming with confidence and excellent at penalty shoot-outs with the England youth team and has proven he can play at the top level this season. For me David James is too old, in decline and error prone.

With our fullbacks you have two players are devastating attacking wise and atleast one of them is competent in defence. For some reason Capello hasn't really given either full liscense to attack, i know they both love to do it.

Terry is our best fit defender. In my view, Dawson is in the best form, and doesnt have the manouverability of Aircraft Carragher, or lack of.

Barry is our defence/holding player, he needs to stay in position. Lampard is box to box, starting deep, involving himself in the play, linking up with the Coles on the left and ending up in or around the box.

Gerrard completes the three man centre midfield. A three man midfield is an obsolute must if we want to control games and not lose the midfield battle to teams like Algeria and Japan. Gerrard plays behind Rooney, like he would with Torres at Liverpool.

Two wide players who can both come inside when fullbacks overlap. Hopefully Lennon can use his pace and ghetto skillz and Joe Cole can add some creativity.

Rooney up top banging 'em in. No more longballs to anyone, they never work and waste possession. Closing down opposition would also be nice, as well as a bit of movement across the board. Our fullbacks would make that pretty easy.

every forum i read or FB and even the pundits all want more or less the same team (well except keeper) back 4 choose themselfs really then lennon lampard barry j.cole gerrard rooney

why hasnt it happened? why hasnt it even been tried in a friendly?

and wtf is heskey still doing starting? sure the comentators jsut had a button that they press when he gets it, "heskey, now algeria have the ball"

see EVERYONE wants this formation

Clean sheets mean very little if the opponents have limited chances... that more down to the defense.

You find out who is the better keeper when they with a crap defense that gives opponents lots of good opportunities. Hart has shown that he can do the job and is a very good shot stopper this season.

One big problem, though, is that Rooney doesnt look fit, infact he's looked a bit shady for a while.

No the best keeper is the one that does nothing for 90 minutes then pulls off a worldy to deny the opposition a result.

Carson looked better than he was because he had so many saves to make he was always going to make some, when he was at WBA.

I agree with the above Paul robinson has had a fantastic season and should be there ahead of Green, who despite bad defence did shit all.

And in megadaves formation he's got him as a standard CM Gerard plays better as a CM than Lampard does, Move Lamps behind Rooney and stick Stevoe G in CM because he is also better than Lampard at driving the team forward from midfield. Barry can sit.

Lampard does not know how to time his runs from the half way line, he likes to sit at the edge of the box when the ball gets crossed in.
He hasn't come close to the heights he hits with Chelsea because he isn't being used correctly. He is not a box to box player.
