I was thinking this morning that "Gods...i really wish i could change my job. MAybe i should just quit, i think i'm getting a bit stuck...etc"

You know, your basic "i don't really prefer the job, but i'll do it 'cause it's my area, the workplace is nice and money is good to have."

Today, the bossyboss and associates asked me to a small conference, in a nutshell;

"We have an offer for you; get severance pay, vacation day pays and two months pay as extra if we agree to terminate the contract. No requirement to take it, but it's a once in a blue moon offer."

So basically i'd get 4 months pay if i leave this week :eek7:

If i decline, there's, i quote; "No problems with it, work as usual."

Now i've got to decide in like two days if i take the offer or not.

Good things; Can find better job 24/7(no work in way). Can get out with a NICE payout(basically free 3 months paid).

Bad thing; no certainty of another job. They might get rid of me if they need cutbacks(though they say that this is NOT going to effect other areas, even if i decline.)

I'm a bit "Mumblu...umm...ee....yes but no but yes but no but..." :D

well you were having doubts before they even spoke to you. You may turn it down then in 2 months time wish you had taken it

And having 4 months is plenty of time to find another job. You'll probably find one within a month

Voluntary Redundancy which this sounds like if it is not taken up is normally followed by normal redundancy which may not have the same perks. The company would not admit its on the cards as it might cause too many people to jump ship. But i have gone though it twice now.

:D

You follow my life way too much!

I should start a twitter account...yeah hell no.

In any case, yeah, since they are offering and even if they claim fullheartedly that "it's ok if you say no", i think i might have to take it 'cause i know that if i don't, they'll come up with something to get rid of me

Also they stated that there wil be no change in my work for a year, so if i don't leave now, it's another year of same old.

Thing is, last time i left work, a short unemployment turned to a long haul and with this day and age?

Oh fyi; i'd be left with about 3k in hand, so it's not as big as one might imagine.

Still, after paying for rent for rest of year i'd have over 2k left.

Also i'm moving at the end of the year, so i have the...ngh...option to crash at family so that would save some money too.

Even with rent costs, 2k would probably get me to march next year.

I'd be tempted to say take the money, you clearly don't like the job. The problem is that finding another job isn't easy in this climate. If you can make it stretch and be happy, and find a filler job then go for it.

Same thoughts exactly, only problem being that finding the job, even a filler, isn't exactly something one can predict.

Oh well, have to think about it, i've been unemlpoyed before so it's no new lifestyle if shapoopie hits the fan.

I dunno really - I remember how you couldn't afford your own appartment last time you were without a job. How long did it take you to get your current job back then?

Yeah, but that was a bit different situation.

For one, much more expensive apartment with 0 backup cash(which this offers).

And now i know what to do in that situation :p

BAck then it took little over a year i think.

take it.
while finding a job in this financial climate is difficult, looking for a job with next to no money in your pocket is more difficult.
you want to quit. you might have to quit with a much worse deal anyway. to me it seems like theres no question about what to do

Take the redunancy - start doing blogs about your life (so you can get sponsership via adverts) - let this lot follow you - spend the rest of the time in FHOT - Profit?

Seriously; If the job market isn't too down (I've not been out of contract much in the lat 2 years so I don't think it is) then you should bounce back easily within 2 months tbh.

Maybe I should stop spamming this place & go back to doing the job I'm being contracted to do....

Thinking more about it, the others are right. Voluntary redundancies usually come before forced redundancies, with less on offer. So take it now.

If the job market is not too bad regarding the type of work you are trained for, then take the money and move back home as soon as your current rent expires. Save as much of that money you recieve to make life easier for finding a new job.

You know your company better than any of us. However this "no problem if you say no" may backfire on them. SOme people will want to stay so it looks like they want to get rid of some people. If everyone wants to stay, they will start making redunancies.

If my company would offer me that deal, I'd take it.

An offer like this means they need the cutback -- if they can't get it this way, it'll be the axe next time. Take it.

I really wish i could change my job. MAybe i should just quit

Been there & done it & wasn't a clever move.

Years ago, just walked out one Friday after work and didn't go back. Felt great for a few months...then reality kicks in

Those long frequent unexplained "career gaps" don't impress employers looking at resumes. The dwindling savings. etc

Start looking for another job now. Do not give up anything until you've gone something better to replace it.

Go and look through the job vacancies in your area (or elsewhere if you're going to move) before you consider either option.

Most of us here are pessimistic regarding your chances of being able to find another job within the 4 months. Check to see what opportunities are available before clouding your judgement with the thought of not having to work for a few months. I'm sure there are plenty of other people fighting for those positions at the moment. Maybe things are better near you - but only you can figure that out.

Unless you really hate your current job, stick with it but look out for something else which interests you. Quitting could be the start of a downward spiral if you're unable to get another job afterwards.

Well if current suggestion goes through, i'll get the following;

The job is terminated on "mutual grounds", so it's not a firing or a quit. (helps with unemployment funds).

I get pay so far, vacation days paid, 1 month severance time and 3 months bonus.

The 3 month bonus is to counter a possible "unemployment funds withold" that the uemlpoyment office in finland can give, which means that for 90 days you don't get cash.

Work need is terminated on signing, so i don't have to work the next 4 months, but get paid.

Also i can look for a job with no NDA etc coming in the way.

Take it. Christmas off work, paid and a chance to find a job you want. Also when a company offers this sort of thing they are usually trying to make staff cuts for a reason, poor sales or poor projected sales, whatever. You should be able to pick up on how your company is doing if you keep your ear to the ground.

On the other hand you will be joining others who will take the deal going for the same jobs. What is the market like in your field? Is there plenty of work about? How confident are you in your ability to do your job and to show this on your CV and in the interview?

MY CV has been remarked before by major game companies as impressive, so there's no doubt in skills and such, only problem might be availability as it's always in flux.

Luckily there are about 10k game companies around the world and i have no ties here.

I'm also the only person who is leaving the ocmpany atm ;)
