I am thinking of moving to Vegas for a year to become a professional card dealer, and was wondering what websites are useful about working out on the states?

Has anyone got any experience of working in the states?

Trying to convince her, but I don't think it's going to be an easy task.

Good luck would be an amazing thing to do for a while, but I don't think you'll have a chance in hell of getting a work permit.

Well like said before, this will surely destroy any hope of a relationship. And you being so overly confident while moving in with her. Now only have to get Bugz to f*ck up his perfect relationship and...ah.perfection :D

Seriously dude, professional card dealer? I know you like poker and all, and shouldn't judge any occupation, but what...the...f*ck? If there's not an alternate motive to this, i'd say that's one of the dumbest things one could do.

Why is it dumb? My motive is doing something different for a while, and going somewhere different. Some of us arnt happy to sit around and make plans for babys etc.

As for "my relationship" comments, that has nothing to do with it, she'll probably come with and even if she doesn't none of you know anything about us so are not qualified to pass comment.

Yeah but going to vegas to become a card dealer is so, low. It's probably something you could get at a local casino, without the so called "vegas magic" added to it. If you want to live in vegas for a year, get the experience of the states(in a very glittery way) that's all and fine, go for the experience, but going there just to become a card dealer IS dumb.

About the relationship(if you want to take it this seriously) if she can live with you across the seas for a year, more power to ya. Doubt it though. Just general "this is how those things go" knowledge that even YOU would say if tables were turned. And don't you dare say "No i wouldn't say anything like that" 'cause it would be total BS.

Also if your girl is willing to move with you to vegas while you chase some card dealer dream(see how it sounds?), then i'd make sure as f*cking hell i wouldn't let a gem like that slip away.

Oh fuck off! xD

Knew you'd like it :D

Nothing "dumb" about the idea in my opinion. If you have the chance and are willing to take the risk... why not? I made a job out of my hobby and never regretted it. *shrug*
Either I didn´t quite understand your point, or you´re getting conservative, Mr. Seel. :D

I think you have the focus wrong here Toh,

I just want to live in Vegas for a year, I would Card deal to make the money to live there...I can't just not work for a year :p

Card dealing would improve my poker game (watching people play) and I am serious about my game.

I am not chasing the dream of being a card dealer lol. Why would I leave the I.T Sector to become a card dealer just for the sake of it :p

The job is there so that I can live in Vegas and improve my poker game, because I really want to be a pro player, its a dream that may never happen but I am more than happy to give it a shot.

Dealing is a means to an end.

It's the lack of the word "just" in the first post.

You can get the job experience and the work is really SAME, as well as the casino atmosphere, everywhere around the world.

Now going to vegas for the "living in vegas" experience is not dumb, but going there to "become an allmighty card dealer!" is.

That's like striving to be a tobogganist :eek7:

And another thing is that i think there's a good chance(take with jest) Gamah will f*ck himself over with his liking to poker and other gambling endeavours. Like me saying "I'm gonna go live in a whiskey factory for a year!"

Bad things...

Gamah, it's the way you say it:

I am thinking of moving to Vegas for a year to become a professional card dealer

That's nothing short of "I wanna be a card dealer for surez!" :D

Maybe saying something along the lines of "I'm moving to vegas and thought i'd work as a card dealer while there" would be a bit less..."gitty"?

About the Pro-player thing.... don´t you think that the entire Poker hype will be over in a couple of years (as in... like... 2-3?). Of course, there will always be poker pro players, but I doubt that the ammount of cash that´s currently floating around in the circus will remain the same.

Actually it's ever growing and the cash that's floating around has always been floating around. Now you just see it and get all these wannab pokerstars on TV and wanting to be those wannab pokerstars on TV :D

Well thats what they said 3 years ago :p

Poker (in its many forms) has been being played in casino's since before the 70's ( and probably before) and people have been making a good living since then. Just because it's not on the TV any more doesn't mean you wont be able to play it in the casinos for 10 years to come.

Whatever Toh, stop being predantic. It's not my fault you don't undertsnad my English :p

I have no interest in a carrer in card dealing, so calm DOWN! :p

Okay now it becomes clear you want to go out there to give live professional poker a shot with the backup of the card dealing job to fund it.

Imo, definitely go for it and you will learn LOADS being the dealer on how to improve your game, looking for tells and you can talk to the guys playing for advice.

My friend has just gone to vegas for 2 months. He and his mate won a $15,000 package from internet poker for the largest rake on one site for the month. The prize was $10k entry to the WSOP main event and $5k flights and accomodation etc.

They went out a month early and are living in a hotel for a month or two on the strip and paying next to nothing for a room, playing cash games and going out everynight. Having just come out of uni they had very little financial security if things went badly but i guess that is part of the thrill.

You will probably be in a more secure position having been in full time work for a while and planning this trip quite far in advance..

Long as your not an idiot you ain't gonna be losing all your money. Start off with a bank roll if things are going badly then drop down stakes untill your fulled rolled for those stakes then slowly move up through the cash games, giving the odd tourny a pop.

If you don't do it now you may have to wait till you retire, or you will only be able to go for a long holiday.

If your serious start reading every bloody poker book there is and step up your online game.

Hey gamah, you could go to Gibralatar and get a job in one the online poker places, so you can do IT, be close to Poker and you cannot gamble online there so you will get to keep all your money. :D

Unless you pop up to the casino and play irl that is.

Yes that became clear when you wrote your answer as i was typing my own. I'm rather calm, simply was saying something you too would say if someone said "I want to be a professional card dealer for a living." :D

And how could i understand your english when you can't type understand :D
