just listening to music, i was thinking about amazing lines from songs (and other things, but mainly songs) that just inspire, or make you realise different things. What lines or words of wisdom have inspired you?

Ben harper - "tell me do you really know your brother man, because a heart speaks louder than colour can, and why would you even shake a mans hand, if your not going, to help him stand?"

"Make me feel like a begger, make me feel like a theif, make me feel like a battle, that cannot end in peace, make me feel like running, as if ive lost my nerve, make me feel like crying, tears i dont deserve"

Bounty killer - "People are dead, dead, thats why i say the plan must be laid, the hungry must be fed"

"Look into my eyes, tell me what you see, can you feel my pain? am i your enemy? give us a better way, things are really bad, the only friend i know is this gun i have"

Beach boys - "wouldnt it be nice.... :)"

damian marley - "Did you know the pen is stronger than the knife, and they can kill you once, but they cant kill you twice, did you know destruction of the flesh is not the ending to life, fear not a of the anti christ, did you know that I exist before the earth and did you know my eyes are windows to the world"

"Your bodys just a vehicle transporting the soul, its whats inside, theres beauty to behold"

capleton - "fear is in the hands of the beholder, and love is in the presence of the lover maker, life is in the words of the comforter"

Dizzee rascal - "and in the ghetto theres no stars in the sky, coz there all down on the ground"

immortal technique - "hold the person that you love closely if there next to you, the one you love, not simply the one that has sex with you, appreciate them to the fullest extent, and then beyond, because you never really know what you got, until its gone"

"theres more to life than how many women you have sex with, and theres more to life than how many girls you have on the side, and theres more to life than all that stupid shit, in the end, honestly, what really counts is the love between people, and how much somebody cares about you."

Jah Cure - "situation get out of control"

junior reid - "Coulda come from ethiopia, or come from america, come from europe, or come from africa, one blood, one blood, one blood, you coulda be a irish man or a english man, you coulda b a mexican or a red indian, one blood, one blood!"

well im a bit bored now hehe, but i can think of loads more :p

so what lyrics etc have inspired you?

(btw +1 to the guy who says something along the lines of "im my own person i dont get influenced" - retard everyone gets influenced by everything :p)

Umm, well todays lyric would be;

"This is passion, this is red-handed denial. I have no lover, and she hasn't the prettiest eyes"

Wrote by Keith Buckley from Every Time I Die.

which reminds me of Jeff Buckleys cover of the infamous Hallelujah

"I heard there was a secret chord, that david played and it pleased the lord, but you dont really care for music do you? And it goes like this, the 4th, the 5th, the minor fall and the major lift, the baffel came composing hallelujah, hallelujah, halleujah, hallelujah.

your faith was strong but you needed proof, you saw her bathing on the roof, her beauty in the moonlight over through yeh,

she tied you to the kitchen chair, and she broke your throne and she cut your hair, and from your lips she drew the hallelujah :("

Excellent song from Shrek, at least thats where I know it from, there is a similar one in Shrek II 'A little Bit of Poison' different singer and styyle but similar in as much as you really don't expect a song like it to happen on the soundtrack to,ostensibly, a kids cartoon.

I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark, When he made Pearl Harbor.
I miss you more than that movie missed the point, And that's an awful lot, girl.
And now, now you've gone away, And all I'm trying to say, is:
Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you.

I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school, He was terrible in that film.
I need you like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part, He's way better than Ben Affleck.
And now, all I can think about is your smile, and that shitty movie, too!
Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you.

I guess Pearl Harbor sucked, just a little bit more than I miss you.

*sniff* says it all tbh ...

lyrics that touch me is by far Pink Floyd's, especially Time:

Ticking away the moments that make up the dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find that ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or a half page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in a quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone the song is over, thought i'd something more to say

Even now there's something
To be proud about
You come up the hard way
And they'll remind you every day
You're nothing

Oh my words in your mouth
Are mumbled all about
You're like a journalist
How you can cut and paste and twist
You're awful

Tell it to your king
Tell him everything you know
Tell him you know how I feel
Tell him you know how I feel at the palace gates
Oh I'm all levered off my face
And just to work out what it's on about
And see snakes in eyes
And danger signs

fugees - killing me softly;

i just the verses not the chorus -

I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style
And so I came to see him, to listen for a while
And there he was, this young boy, a stranger to my eyes

I felt all flushed with fever, embarassed by the crowd
I felt he'd found my letters and read each one out loud
I prayed that he would finish, but he just kept right on

He sang as if he knew me in all my dark despair
And then he looked right through me as if I wasn't there
But he was there, this stranger, singing clear and loud

i dunno just something insane about this song thats just wow :) tho i cant understand what its about ? :S i used to think it was just a simple love song or something, but the lyrics, its like, he knows her so well but he's never met her, and she relates with the song, i dunno, hearts my head.

also yeh the hallelujah song is sad, but then theres something inspiritational about it thats amazing, i love the song and its been on quiet a few things

the OC
shrek
and it was on that program about people who get kidnapped, the drama, cant remember what its called

that song was also on shrek fyi

sang by rufus wainwright and not jeff buckley. while i think rufus wainwright is great (gutted im missing him live cuz it sold out ;<), the jeff buckley version of the song has more emotional impact on me. probably because rufus' version was in shrek and that wasnt (for me) an emotional film, whereas im hopelessly addicted to the drama that is the OC.

and re: killing me softly, i interpret the words as though she has identified with his song and feels like he is singing directly at her, even though he's currently unaware of her existence. or something. i love that song too :)

Dunno who made the original track but the "shrek2# version is Tom Waits.

I like my town with a little drop of poison
Nobody knows they're lining up to go insane
I'm all alone, I smoke my friends down to the filter
But I feel much cleaner after it rains

She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison
She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison

Did the devil make the world while god was sleeping
Someone said you'll never get a wish from a bone
Another wrong good-bye and a hundred sailors
That deep blue sky is my home

She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison
She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison

A rat always knows when he's in with weasels
Here you lose a little every day
I remember when a million was a million
They all have ways to make you pay
They all have ways to make you pay

I also love Leonard Cohen's Lyrics... alot of on his "Best of" from the rather early years.

The Partisan i really like:
When they poured across the border
I was cautioned to surrender,
this I could not do;
I took my gun and vanished.

I have changed my name so often,
I've lost my wife and children
but I have many friends,
and some of them are with me.

An old woman gave us shelter,
kept us hidden in the garret,
then the soldiers came;
she died without a whisper.

There were three of us this morning
I'm the only one this evening
but I must go on;
the frontiers are my prison.

Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing,
through the graves the wind is blowing,
freedom soon will come;
then we'll come from the shadows.

Les Allemands étaient chez moi,
ils me disent, "résigne toi,"
mais je n'ai pas peur;
j'ai repris mon arme.
J'ai changé cent fois de nom,
j'ai perdu femme et enfants
mais j'ai tant d'amis;
j'ai la France entière.
Un vieil homme dans un grenier
pour la nuit nous a caché,
les Allemands l'ont pris;
il est mort sans surprise.

[
The Germans were at my home
They said, "Surrender yourself"
But I am not afraid
I have retaken my weapon
I have changed names a hundred times
I have lost wife and children
But I have so many friends
I have all of France
An old man, in an attic
Hid us for the night
The Germans captured him
He died without surprise.
]

Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing,
through the graves the wind is blowing,
freedom soon will come;
then we'll come from the shadows.

also Who by Fire and Famous Blue Raincoat. I love the way he is so simple in the things he sing of. (And the way he commented the songs in the "sheet")
