How come everyone really does love Winamp....

I use Windows Media Player (Being on WindowsXP) and I love it, it does everythign I want. Now when people tell me Winamp is better, i just cant see why, anyone care to elaborate for me?

Same answer as you. Winamp does everything I want, and I've been using it for 7 years, why change now?

Winamp embodies pretty much everything I look for in an app. It's tidy, out of the way, simple with none of these shiny extras, easily configurable and quite customisable, for those times when I want to make everything look pretty.

That is classic Winamp, none of this Winamp 3 malarkey.

I was using WMP for a little while recently, decided to give it a go. It did indeed do everything I required of it, perhaps even more. It was nice and easy to use and offered a comprehensive library system. But, after a while I found it a bit cumbersome, both with loading/playing media and visually. This is though on Win2k. I found the WinXP version somewhat more satisfying in these departments, especially with visualisations.

I have since gone back to Winamp and i've decided to stick with it. Winamp 3, however buggy I hear of it, is superbly laid out, simplistic to a complex point and much easier to customise. The media library (What I liked about WMP) is quite brilliant in Winamp 3, so that's also kept me to quiet. There's probably countless reasons why I love it so, but it does seem to be unbeatable for its ergonomics prowess.

You get the same basic features in both, but lets face it when it comes to plugins winamp really kicks the shit.

People have developed proper 3D games for the winamp browser :/

I, like the donkey, used WMP for a while; but I grew tired of it and went back to Winamp 2.whatever (unlike the donkey). I use mIRC's internal mp3 player more than anything at the moment though.

Only fault with winamp3 is a) when vids start playing their slow.

and b) when loading a directory, it sticks it all in alphabetical order even if it is selected to sort by "path filename"

I have XP-Pro and have used WMP three times the last two times it crashed. Needless to say I use Wamp :)

Winamp 2 > Winamp 3 > Windows Media Player (all versions except 6.4)

I'm using BeoPlayer atm, its in need of serious improvement, but its got some slick little features I like.

I don't really like either so i use Creative PlayCenter, but if i had to use one it would be WMP because its more simple to use.

What an excellent and almost sexual reply that was bigbb, I agree with the above.

I prefer WinAMP.

Specifically the option where you can "minimise" the window to a small slim bar for both main window and playlist... perfect if you dont own a multimedia keyboard :)

also doesnt suck up resources like some programs, and is designed to do what it does excellently.

its like comparing a bus to a car, they do two different things but they can both carry people.

Chalk one up for Media Player (v:8.00.00.4477)

It tells me all sorts of 'neat' stuff like my total library running time and the size of it, whether AMP does this, i don't care because WMP was in my home first. :p It's never crashed on me so i have no reason to dislike it.

Maybe i should D/L AMP just to see what it's like...i like the idea of putting it on top of the toolbar.

I've been using WinAMP 3 atm becuase it uses very little CPU time which results in less heat buildup on my laptop meaning no irritating fans spinning up :)

When WMP9 comes out I may go back to that

Indeed it does... the length anyway. Plus you can also print out an html file listing your entire playlist with total/average times.

I prefer winamp due to the nice compact feel and the HUGE choice of neat/varying skins and plugins on winamp.com. Milkdrop makes it worth using alone :)

Or, even better, there's a nice little plugin here which makes it slide off the screen when you're not using it :)

I use Winamp 2.8, as it just so happens to be the FUCKING DADDEH.

*ahem*

Anyhows, I used WMP for a while after setting this install of XP up about 6 months ago, but it was too cumbersome tbh. WA 2.8 is nice and neat and small.
