No wizard thread here so starting one.

Started with a spectral blade, frostnova kite build from normal to start of inferno. Near impossible to kill stuff with old build from the first champion packs in inferno with any other build than a derivate of the following: current build

Pretty standard glass cannon no-vita force armor build. If you wonder what this build is about, force armor makes eat hit get reduced to 35% of max hp. If you have no vitality, you typically land at about 4.7k hp, which means that every enemy that hits you take off 35% off your hp. This might sound bad but galvanizing ward passive plus item +life regeneration bonuses make your hp tick up very fast. So you get hit twice and reduced to 30% hp but ticks up to max hp after 1-2 seconds depending on your gear.

What makes this even better is the crystal armor. Since it absorbs 21k dmg and each hit you take damages you for 1645 damage, then you can take 12 hits of ANY type before you die. Enough to get to safety

This build makes the wizard alot more survivable and have great damage because you only stack intelligence and some life regen but it does have drawbacks.
You still can't stand still and just spam spells, you need to kite alot. You will die if walled/jailed in standing in a desecration, plague pool, hit by mortars or arcane enchants

You will die like a pig if hit three times by any monster. Fast champion packs from monsters that already are fast (small spiders, fallen, betrayed etc) will get you insta killed. If crystal shell is down, you die regardless if surrounded

There are crit heavy builds that can make you have crystal shell almost permanently up, but it requires alot of +crit% which can be very expensive.

I won't be surprised if force armor gets nerfed at some point, but such a nerf will render a wizard near useless solo in inferno. You'll just die all the time

what did they fix about force armor? because the tool tip still reads the same.

Seems they ninja hotfixed it a few hours ago, I die in one hit now. Maybe they added a timer or something to how often the effect could occur. They could atleast update the tooltip

Basically need to change into my old gear with vita now and add some cc abilities

seems abit silly, isnt that all wizards had going for them? force armor?

Venom Hydra + Blizzard kite works well, can kill virtually anything with it except a few champ combos.

Yeah to survive inferno now you need some cc aswell and not only stack damage abilities. With that said glass cannon build with alot of kiting is the way to go now. I guess you use chilled passive aswell for added damage?

http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#blXRcS!bYX!bcaaab this is what I will use at 60, using the same build with different runes at 54 at the moment and find the game a complete cakewalk tbh, but I think it's mostly down to playing ranged more than anything. It will all change in Inferno I'm sure. :>

Very similar to my build, altho I use disintegrate instead of orb. Although as you said it seems that you need to stack defensive ablities at Inferno.

Blizzard + Venom hydra is my favorite combo :) Try the venom instead of arcane for a while :)

Will do. I only just swapped to using the Hydra at the recommendation of a friend, haven't really experimented with it yet too much. Cheers for the tip. :)

Critical Mass getting nerfed soon as well.

My guess is that Venom Hydra will be next in line.

Have they tested this game if they need to nerf half of the abilities withing 2 weeks? :>

They've tested for sure(check the credits, the amount of QA is insane), but when it's released to the world, all the 6+ millon players get to test weird stuff that no one could dream of trying and then, needs a change.

Exploits nerf classes more then balance issues ;)

But they let force armor through, it took me all of 5 mins to figure out an op build with that... Although cm builds i never thought off :)

So what builds are people using right now for solo? I've pretty much only played my Wiz in a group at 60 on farm runs, so I just run a max damage build since all the mobs get tanked by our Monk 90% of the time. I've seen all the Force Armour and Critical Mass builds, but afaik they're nerfed now? I'd like to get progress on Inferno solo now I have serviceable gear (ish), any tips?

Nej! You wouldn't want him anyway, he spent half the night last night going on about how much he was looking forward to "the mobs in Act III that finger your bumhole" on TS3.

Playing my HC wizzy along nicely(read: poo in pants half the time).

Haven't done any AH stuff, but been using some drops my dead DH left behind. At 3k health and 1.1k damage, teleport(yum), archon(or as i like to call it; Cilit Bang for Champ-packs), wispy damage increase, elemental weapon damage increase, glass cannon, cold blood, ray of frost and whatever i fancy as a "big area boom"(usually blizzard).

Survivability is very low, but keeps me on my toes(at 37 and going to act 2 NM), but the damage is -really- nice.

Kite away like a pig if there anything that has > runspeed than you

I died loads on nightmare on my wizard the first playthrough, with little cash and not that accessible twink gear

For levelling I'm not sure, but I primarily use Critical Mass when I can for a build like this for farming its essentially stun locking mobs with aoe freeze:

But what I hate is after a while you need 3-4 mill min to upgrade each slot, and the drops sucked so much I gave up.
