Nice one, Teste! :)

So what does this mean? No more commuting to Amsterdam, I guess. More money? Same operating systems? What sort of setup is this company running? New challenges? Easier job? I WANT ANSWERS, DAMMIT!

firstly, thank you everyone for your replies. you guys rock!

now [sure thing Summo :)] here I shall attempt to provide clarity:

commuting? more or less over, yes!! I will prolly still be going to Amsterdam once a week or so, but the car will take care of that ;)

more munneh? aye, though not right away. ye booke o' fair play and other decrees, guidelines and stuff(tm) dictates that deptA shalt not manipulate, kidnap, steal or downright buy people from deptB. the book also says that one must 'officially' transfer from A to B, thus one must engage 'job application' mode in order to effect said transition. imo BigCompany is both aided and hindered by ye booke, but that is the way of things(tm). iow I'm still working for the same organization, just a different department.

operating what? unix, unix and more unix. the general idea [as presented to me] is that I am going to become a solaris guru. Once I'm more or less 'there' I shall select a padawan. He instructed shall be. Once I've become sick of sun-related things I am free to move to another unix varient [most likely aix] where, in the fullness of time I shall be selected as padawan etc. etc.

setup? errr. I abhor bragging, just so you know. BigCompany uses everything.

Challenges? Woo, yes please! Right now I am a journeyman 'nix bloke. I am [or more accurately was] a novell god. I have a moderate amount of organizational skills. I do projects, big and small. You know, average admin type [imo]. They want me to become a solaris god. I estimate this will take two years to achieve. I will be doing higher tier projects, advisory stuff et al, but my point of view will have changed from operational to implementational [ugly word that heh] iirc.

easier? heh. no, prolly not. more fun? hell yeah!
