Ladies & Gentlemen at Barrysword Reincarnate...

I'm posting here for the first time in months to sell you something. So pull up a chair, read through my monsterous post and embrace the concept of experimentation.

At the closing of the current WPCSL 3 we are proposing a trial Tournament, open to any and all clans, which may be a fore-runner for subsequent Leagues. The format will be something previously untried in CS competitions and while it's a flexible system it requires your support for it to get off the ground. The system is designed to work with an optimum 60 clans but can be adapted for less or more, quite easily. This is being posted on MPZ, BW and JOLT forums and so may possibly involve clans not previously known to Wireplay. This is, prospectively, a good thing. Currently the future of the tournament is entirely dependant on a large enough number of clans responding.

The Format:

(Note: the details below are subject to the number of clans involved but the basic structure/format remains the same) -

All teams who apply will be loosely seeded and then placed into one of two CONFERENCES - East & West. Each Conference will be divided into 5 DIVISIONS. Teams then play all teams within their Division, and a select, pre-drawn number of teams in their Conference. In this way it is possible to host a large number of clans but maintain control over the length of the competition.

At the end of the League section the 10 Division winners and the next 3 best runners-up from each Conference progress to the PLAYOFFS. The Playoffs take the format of a straight knock-out tournament with each Conference playing an internal and seeded format till one team is left from each Conference. These two teams then play the Grand Final. It is possible that the Playoff games may be a best-of-three match-up. If a best-of-three system is used, also possible is the prospect of the higher seeded clan choosing the maps for the Playoff games up to the Final itself.

Scoring:

Simply put, instead of X points for a match-half win or draw, we will score the matches as following:
- Maps will be graded individually to decide the points per round win, so that a CT win on a CS_map will be worth 2 points and a Terrorist win on a DE_map 2 points.
- 1 or 2 points scored per round won in the match.
- 5 points bonus for Half win.
- 5 points bonus for total rounds score winner.
- 3 points bonus for most attacking rounds won.

This will mean that the best team overall will gain the biggest point share over an individual match and also over the full competition. Also, it will put greater importance and tension into each round, NO round will be a dead-round - the last round of the match will count just as any other, with points at stake. Also this will leave an end-of-season league table with a very representative view of the quality of the various clans with margin of victory suddenly becoming more important for Playoff Qualification.

Yes this is something different, yes it's something new. It's not like the old Football League or basic Cup sytem usually implemented. It would provide a fresh alternative to the rather staid Football League system now used and most importantly it would prolong interest in the league and a more exciting finish. It also provides more opportunity for qualification by the fact that a team need not win its' Division to qualify, a 3rd placed team could qualify depending on its regular season record and points tally. Also, the Playoff style finish is surely more exciting and interesting than the current system whereby the title could be decided with weeks to go.

Any CL's reading this who are interested in participating in such a Competition please send an e-mail to the following address with your clan info and an e-mail contact address so we can contact you with further developments. Only with adequate support from you, the blessed CS Community, can this get the green light.

No but really, why post a link? The text will just be on the other side anyway. I dont like reading posts which contain nothing but one smilie/word and nothing else, at least this bloke made an effort to write his blurb and then cut n paste it in every GSP's forums in the land :)
