Wireless - Zero Functionality

Well not quite, but a little.
I'm having issues with XP's Wireless Zero Configuration.
I have the following (which I've recommended earlier...) equipment:

A Netgear DG834G router
A Linksys WMP54G wireless NIC
A PC.
And other stuff, but nm about that.

Anyhow. The Linksys card doesnt come with a utility for XP, instead it says in the manual, and on the webbie etc, to use XP's WZC. Right. So, this was working well before, but now it's acting up for some reason. Connection drops every 10 minutes, and stays down for 5-8 secs or so. During normal browsing and downloading this isnt noticeable. Applications such as MSN however disconnects at once. Annoying.

So, despite me having told the WZC to use the specified WLAN I entered..... every 10 minutes, WZC thinks it's a great idea to scan for other available networks. I however, don't.

Just wish Linksys could make a utility so I could disable the dreadful WZC.

I've seen a few posts on various forums about this, but no solutions. Ideas?

Hmmm... are there no generic WLAN utilities, such as the dreaded WZC that comes with XP? Should probably solve the issue I guess.

Hehe, I read that article last night, along with others like it. It's so poor design by Microsoft I'm amazed. Anyhow, think I managed to fix it. Changed channel from 11 to 6 on the router. Turned off encryption. Yes, OFF. Thought quite a few times about it first tho. I've locked the router to the NIC's mac adress, so it should still provide some safety, along with having SSID broadcast turned off.

And well, if someone wants to break in to my network, they're worth it if they go through the trouble.

Gonna be building a new PC later this month, so I wonder if should look for another NIC. It'll be the third. Hah.

Have you got the latest drivers for the NIC? I had major issues with the connection dropping on my Linksys WPC55AG card with the drivers that came on disk. When I got the latest drivers, all issues dissapeared.

The drivers that came on the disk are the latest ones yeah. 3.30.15.
Amusingly enough, the ones from the website that are the same version arent WHQL, and they dont work at all :). Suppose I can use my connection dropout as alarm for food cooking. Or such.

Wonder what brand I'll try next. Netgear was wank unstable, this is well..... Don't really want to use D-Link unless I have to. Wonder if 3Com makes any nice 54mbps NIC's.

So. Fixed the WLAN disses, but they still continued... Worst luck ever having a router and ISP that arent compatible.

Recommend anyone using TeliaSonera Sweden as ISP to stay clear of the Netgear DG834G. At least until Netgear gets their ass in gear and releases better firmware.

Now to find out how to lock this post, since it even more pointless now than it was when I made it.

You can't install the utility on XP. Read the manual.
You have to use WZC. Read my original post.
You can enter WEP, and it works quite well.

Anyhow, this was foul threadjacking, and it shall cost you... beta firmware compatible with my ISP!
