Right erm so, I want wireless internet! But i'm hopfully going to make more sence than Mut68 when he asked :p

Right, i'm moving house and rather than pulling up all the floor boards and buying new network cables (and I can use my pda around the house), i'm going to get a wireless router. Now this is where you guys come in :p

I'm not entirly sure how much a 'good' one would be, i'm willing to spend around £100 I guess, or extra if a good one is just over that. I'll be using the pc for gaming mostly, so need low pings, thanks in advance!

ps: My internet connection will most likely be adsl so it would be nice to have an inbuilt adsl modem.. oh and I need some form of security on the router, thanks!

I have the Netgear DG834G which is fantastic. The new versions - NETGEAR DG834GT 108Mbps ADSL Wireless Router is faster though.

Broadbandbuyer.co.uk do them for around 100 and throw in a wireless network card (pcmia or usb) as well.

It should cover everything you need.

Check out http://www.adslguide.org.uk/reviews/ for loads of uk based reviews on adsl routers.

I have a DG834G (the 54mpbs one) and with my current ISP it's kinda gay, as mentioned in some other thread. The DG834GT apparently has the same issues, random disconnects and lockups, depending on which DSLAMs your ISP is using in the telestations.

You might have to fiddle around with different versions of firmware, until Netgear releases the long awaited 1.06 (which they've been working on since... oh... may 2004 or so...)

Other than that, it's fine! Oh, mine also hangs if I for some reason ever reach cap speed :D. Download at 800kb/s and it dies after about 10 seconds, less speed and it's fine. Funny stuff.

that's exactly what my netgear cable wireless router does.

It worked fine for 6 months and then I got oscillating connections on both wifi and lan ports......

I now run a linksys wireless cable router and that's very nice indeed.

I wouldn't touch netgear with a big stick as a result of my problems with their gear.

As regards cost, most wireless routers incoporate a mini switch with 4 lan ports..... I would stick the router close to your main pc and just hook up to it via cable then you only need to get two wifi cards.

Linksys Wireless Broadband router - £60 incl vat. That's a bit of a deal imo :)

with wifi card you could be connected for under £100......

tis only 54g tho. I stayed away from the 108mbps cos it's not ratified yet and you often get strange hardware glitches unless you buy card and router from the same manufacturer..

I'd go with Linksys if the bastards would have a combined modem/router, but they dont. Unless I'm a total asshat, of course.
