result - XP won't boot. Phoned Microsoft, they said that you cannot change the hardware (MOBO), as XP uses this to generate auth keys. If it changes, XP shagged - you have to re-install.

With ya all the way man, XP is fine for people who don't upgrade their PC often, I do so I am using 2000. XP ACTIVATION is utter shit. Why the F**K do we need to do it!!!

Do you spend more time cleaning your pooter than using it? Whats the point of wiping, reinstalling your OS, reinstalling all your software, and then putting all your data back so often?

Not necessary at all. Win 9x I can understand, though it still seems excessive.

I generally found that in win 9x that it ran faster!!! for some reason it kept slowing down after a couple of months!!!. Got 2000 now, so hopefully won't need to re-install :)

With 9x I generally re-installed Windows every 6 months onto a cleaned partition.

Shouldn't really need to do it that often with XP, although I'll still do it once a year perhaps just to keep her running at speed.

Nope I did. Only as it was getting slow over time. Solution to that use NTFS and the drive never seems to slow down. Defrag too but that doesnt seem to make any differance.
