Hey all I recently wiped my PC using something called Dariks Boot and Nuke, now unfortunately I used the Linux version without my realising, the HD wiped as far as I'm aware and I'm attempting to reinstall Windows off a disc i got off torrent cos i lost mine and it's refusing to boot. This could be a problem with the cd so I'm making another but could this be a problem with the nuking software I used?

oh this aint Uara it's Morph, just can't be botherede to log on :)

Cheers in advance, will copy to General and OT just for some immediate notice :)

No, it'll be the CD. You can boot using the Windows XP boot disc without a hard drive even plugged in, so it's just a poor copy or a misburn. If linux formatted the hard drive in some wonky fashion, the windows installer would still see the physical disk and allow you to partition it.

Or your bios hasn't set the boot priority correct. Is it set to boot from the CD first? Do you hear the CD spin up and access at all before it fails?

Yeah, bad disc, bad burn, bad image or bad disc drive. Delete as appropriate.

You can boot it from any machine without going through the install process, yeah. Just shut off the pc once the XP install screen pops up and asks you to continue.

As has been said, looks to be the disc.
One quick way to see if it's burned right is to put the disc back in once it's burned, and if it's gone right, it should pop up a windows splash screen with some options on it, or something.
If you just get the old "you inserted a disc, what do you want to do? [look at pictures][browse files]" window, then chances are it didn't go right.
I'm guessing it's an iso file you've downloaded. could try getting daemon tools and mount the iso image, see if it shows the windows splash screen, would rule out if it's the downloaded iso or the disc itself that's at fault.
hope this helps.
