Is there any decent software about for Windows XP Spam Filtering with Outlook picking up a POP3 mailbox?

My ISP is pimping Mccaffee SpamKiller which seems a bit excessive to pay for stuff when theres usually some good free alternatives about.

Depends what approach you want to take.
Do you want to see the spam on the server and delete it there and not have to download it,

or download it and deal with it as it comes into Outlook.

I do both tbh. layered defences and all that :)

For the first I use Mailwasher http://www.firetrust.com/home/index.php (not free) ... which goes to your POP mailboxes, downloads the headers and a 100 charaters or so, and can then filter against whitelists, blacklists, user created expression, check spamblacklists and so on.Then you have various options to manually or automatically delete at the server end. Works great on all those emails that are just after someone to hit a graphic on a website and confirm a live address. You can look at it without that risk and get rid of it. You also get the option to report the spam to central database which other Mailwasher users are contributing to.

For integration with Outlook, the Outlook plugin from http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/ works pretty well, is a Bayesian based filter (considered 'a good thing' to have in an email filter) wasn't to hard to train and now almost never makes mistakes. What's more it's free.
