I've been following this as it unfolded today.
Yes it's clean.
Yes it's smooth.
Yes it's based on the Zune interface.
No you can't run your old WM apps.
I can't help but think that MS have been smoking the bad crack to remove all backwards compatibility.
Given that Google have sorted out speech control on Android, free turn-based satnav and generally got their shit together, I think MS have missed the boat.
Well they did kinda miss the boat with the Zune too. Still if you're not worried about backwards compatibility (and realistically thats still a lot of people) these might not be big factors to many potential buyers.
Can't say, atm I'm not a phone-technology feverish follower.
Definitely a fresher UI than iPhone, but on the flip side, just like iPhone its the only one you can have; no Sense UI or anything similar with this. It reminds me of the Palm WebOS more than anything else. Corporates (who I'd guess are the bulk of current WinMo buyers) are going to hate all the social stuff though.
I wonder how much they paid SonyEricsson to borrow their Timescape app. The "Connected Networking" is identical (althogh doesn't look anywhere near as good imo) to whats on the X10.
Other than that it looks a massive improvement on 6.5, am undecided on whether it would tempt me back to a WinMo phone. 18 months with it was that traumatic I'm actually looking at Symbian on my current phone and thinking "Woah, this is awesome".
