this isnt really a critical problem but its bloody annoying.

Insert DVD -> WMP runs..loads..no sound... -> switch to library mode, open MP3, sound works -> open DVD again, sound works fine
at no point is WMP restarted etc

so the codec etc is there it would seem, its just quite annoying having to fiddle with it all the time, and it happens every time :(

any bright ideas ?

My advice would be to use VLC. It isn't as pretty but it plays everything.

In fact it turns out the version I've been using is a year out of date but I've never had any issues with that one.

Mabs I had exactly the same thing today with my Lite-On drive. Was burning cd's and they played fine, however when I inserted Ali into the drive, there was no sound.
Task manager showed WMP was still running. I rebooted and the dvd works fine. I have also installed K Lite Codec.

Will have to keep an eye on this.

right click on the speaker near the clock and choose Playback. I have

Speakers
Realtek Digital Output
Realtek Digital Output (Optical)

I found if I rip a cd or watch a dvd, I can lose my sounds for any new apps/games that may open. I think it's because the dvd drive uses Optical output for anything opened since you used the drive, so as no speakers are plugged into this jack, it means you cant hear anything.

I just disabled the 2nd and 3rd ones on my list. Will see what happens.
