I'm looking at rationalising my organisations data storage and think DFS could well be the answer. I just want to pick some of your brains to find out if I'm on the right lines.
I want to create a root namespace spanning two servers. This namespace will contain, as you would expect, a series of shared folders. My understanding of dfs is that this namespace can be/would be fault tolerant. IE, a user at one site writes a file to the namespace and it is replicated over both servers in the namespace.
Am I correct in this or am I misunderstanding something along the way? I will be using Server 2003 for appliances in order to acheive this. I understand that this, in comparision to Datacentre and Enterprise, will only give me one root share.
Each server resides in a different geographical location with a 4Mb WAN link connecting the two. Microsoft appear to have several replication strategies (Hub and spoke e.t.c.). Can someone recommend a good place where I can read up on how these work?
Thanks in advance!
