well...it precaches all the data regarding file names and file contents....so the results that come back are instantaneous....no waiting for the searching to grind on using the find files option in XP. It will even index your emails (outlook), pdfs (yes file contents) and best of all, added usb hard drives (google desktop didnt do this last time I looked, well.. at least without hacking the registry). I think it even does web pages you have visited recently. In short, its pure power.
The down side...while it is indexing your files in the background...it can cause slow downs. But if, like me, you keep the last 10 years of files on your pc and like to search back...its pretty damn cool.
