But you still have to pay for the OEM software. I could just get it from eBay. I meant if I purchased a new PC I'd get the OS for 'free'.

yes but it wouldnt be free it would be included in the cost of the pc as the manufacturers still have to pay for it

Yeh but they get really good deals. Also, you can but a re-furbed PC off eBay with XP for £40. Less than the disc itself.

Will probably pre-order, that's less than XP was when I got a copy and as I've got 32-bit vista at the moment and it seems a waste not to make use of the 64-bit processor as nature intended.

Was very happy with Vista, its' stability and compatibility, even its' performance - but 7 for me was just very noticeably quicker at doing the same things, and the small tweaks are enough to make it worth my money. I don't think the pricing is particularly bad - as usual we're getting royally fucked in comparison to the Americans, and many people would like to jump on a bandwagon of choice to shout "it should be free to make up for Vista" etc, when they've probably only ever used it once on a particularly bad computer/laptop.

Well since the UK versions will not be upgrades but full versions £49.99 for Premium and £99.99 for Professional don't seem that bad providing you pre order.

I'm confused by this whole thing, initially I thought we were getting screwed over by Microsoft, but now it appears we get the full version for slightly inflated upgrade prices?! is this right!
