Windows 7 Network Drive - Cannot Connect

Set up a windows 7 network drive, have turned passwords off and the default Share folder is accessible as you would expect - so it's all on the same network and workgroup and there's no issues seeing each other.

I've also shared a drive, and a folder. Set permissions to allow, only when I try and connect from the laptop to the main machine that hosts these drives/folders, it says that access is denied.

Why the fudgecicle won't it connect?

Try mounting a network drive with the full path, and make sure it logs on as a different user - then enter your regular username and password that you use for the machine hosting the folder.

What do you mean by full path? It's \\PC\<drive/dir> ? That's what I currently use.

No need for password as the PC I'm connecting to doesn't use one.

Would it be that both PCs have the same user name that's the issue?

Set the permissions using the advanced method to include "Everyone"

Changing laptop user name to something other than the user name on the main pc has made no difference either.

Try changing the Advanced sharing settings in the Networking control panel mate.

Are both machines Win7?

Have you checked the permissions are set for both Security and Sharing at folder level? Try adding everyone with full control to both and see if that allows you \\unc\access to read and write files. Then move back from there.

Try the drive mapping, type in the path that you've been using, select "log on as different user" or whatever it is, and type in computername\Wazz and no password, if you're not using a password. computername being the name of the hosting computer, Wazz being your username.

No luck at all, tried further things with Windows Credentials, turning on more services and forcing other things to be on and open as advised on google and no luck at all.

Just baffled how I can be connected to the default windows share but not connect to anything else.

Maybe the problem is that the folder keeps resetting to Read-Only? Why the hell would it do this?

OK, fixed the read only reset.

Now got it working mapping a network drive to a folder, but can't get it to map to the drive that folder is in. Mostly solved now, thanks all! Will try and figure out this last bit.
