I don't like them at all tbh, way to oddly shaped like spheres and other awkward shapes.

I'm sticking with the default winamp 3 skin for now.

I don't understand why the skinners fall over themselves to use bulging glass effects, and weird shapes. Am I only one who minimises winamp straight to the taskbar, if I want something on my screen, I'll load up a visualisation window, not have the actual program sitting there.

I have the rather sexy WinAmp Slider plug in that makes WinAmp 2.8 hide until you pause on the edge of the screen, then it fades in :D

Another month. Another version of Winamp ready for the download, nothing unusual you about that you might think. But at last vision has become a reality, Winamp 3 Final. Fired up the differences from the previous 2.x versions can become readily apparent, a cleaner interface, a larger list of features ready to play with within the “thigner” box and a general sleekness that surpasses 2.x. However all is not as it seems, already within two days of release problems have been cropping up, earlier beta 3 skins incompatible with the final, plug-ins’ from 2.x unable to function within the final version and a few problems with the playlist. We have been told that final 3 will work with 2.x skins but only on the main screen, I’m not a big user of skins but I prefer it took look whole rather than incomplete. The playlist organisation is annoying as it refuses to organise by path filename, something I find invaluable when distinguishing between my MP3’s and backups, despite the option being available within the SORT menu.
But those are the bad aspects, let me move onto the good angle. As always, winamp have come up with excellent playback capabilities allowing a large and wide variety of audio formats to play, ranging from the now perquisite MP3, WAV and cd-audio to MPEG, yes you heard me, MPEG. Winamp final 3 can now play your favourite videos, excluding the copyrighted Quicktime and Realplayer formats. Basic at the moment, we can expect to see a wide variety of plug-ins that will take advantage of this feature to increase not only our audio but also our viewing pleasure. Faster to load than windows media player, it also provides a simple and user friendly interface rather than the over-bearing squares of WMP. The usual options are available including skipping periods of film e.g. 30 seconds. Invaluable for skipping the boring parts. With the eventual release of WMP 9 looming on the horizon, with beta testing already in progress, it will certainly be intresting to see how this small program fares against such strong competition.

I thought divx playback is better than any other media player atm.

best skin i've seen yet - "Act3scene2"

Although in agreement with scooba, I usually have my entire mp3 dir loaded with winamp minimised, using my msinet keyboard to skip forward/back (Which works in wa3 if you install the wa2 plugin manager)

I disagree. It's chunky. The wonderful thing about WinAmp was that you could make it very, very small.

Hopefully with time people making skins will realise this and work to make UIs SMALLER than WA2. Then it will be worth having. But why on earth both having something as big and bulbous as that?

Currently my WinAmp gets hidden by the Slider plug in, so maybe when that gets updated for the new version I'll consider using it, but right now it's strayed into Windows Media Player territory.

And what's this about it needing 20MB free to run? WA2 runs on the smallest specs..
