Hi thx 4 reply...
I have installed service pack 2 and DirectX 8a plus latest drivers for herculles gf2 mx. but frame rate is really poor (35 ish against 70 in Win ME)and the game crashes cauing a gpf type error.
i am on win2k with NO service pack n have no problems with crashing, could be heat from CPU (if u have newish one) or just a driver prob, dont no if that helped
Hi ..
System is dual boot and been running ME for long time no crashes.
yes iam using standard Herculles drivers (where do i find diferent ?)
could it be opengl problem ?
halfe life was installed on the Win2k partition and the files from ME partition were copied over.
Wanted to put in my 2 cents in the well.
Only thing win2k is a NT platform and as NT it swollows memory and overall making your comp act like it has taking a bath in suryp.
i will have to dis-agree, ME n 98 Takes up shit loads more memorey than win2k (any SP). and its so much better for playing and running any 3D game, (if setup correctly)
Hmm agreed W2k should be beter because of superior memory handlig and running apps in own space means less servear crashes... i got 256meg on the sys and Athlon 8oo so should have enough pony power to run HL ill wip over and try those drivers thx fer tip
While W2K does eat a fair amount of memory it actually gives it back unlike W9X which just eats and eats and eats until the system falls over with a BSOD.
Yeah its a program called freemem that does that just search google i think you can get some hits.
Well i have to take back what i said since there where so many protest against it.
But to explain my self.
Im of the old school of computer user and have been working with NT from 4.0 - 5.0 (5.0 they say its same as Windows2000 NT) and for thoose OS i KNOW they are slower the suryp.
I installed 2000 and run it for like 2-3 weeks and had the same experience not as slow as the previos versions but still to slow for me.
Now maybe they have fixed things and maybe the service pack 2 have done something to help it a bit i dont know but if so i withdraw my statement about it being slow.
The verry best thing bout NT (IMO) is that it is stabil and i really would recomend it if you running a server on the net (xept for the security part that is) couse it rearly goes down.
But then again if i run a server i would rather go with Linux.
Ok thx the 6.50 seams to do the trick ...
BUT how about the old cl_flushentitypacket iam geting this alot on Win2k compared to Win Me..is there a setting anywhere i can tweak???
i had one prob with win2k and tat was screen refresh went to 60Hz.
I found a patch for this!
ME lasted 2 days on my computer and crashed after the first hour.
WIN2000 i soooo stable, not one crash yet!
I find it faster for browsing too.
I used to play one game of HL and my mem usage was like 98% with erm... 98 since 2k its always on about 30% after about 4 days and many games of HL!
