Solution:

add -noforcemparms and -noforcemaccel to your hl/cs command line and in the advanced controls turn mouse filter OFF

that should fix it :)

I just installed xp a couple of hours ago, cos win98 was driving me round the twist.

Anything I should be wary of? I'm dling the hl full patch right now, so I haven't tried it yet. Hopefully I should be able to play in opengl again!

Apart from the refresh rate problem, but that's easily fixed with RivaTuner, which, unlike Nvidia Refresh Rate fix, you don't need to manually change all your refresh rate settings (on Rivatuner, there's a button that automatically sets all your refresh rates to maximum), and it works with any drivers (including the 29.42 WHQL drivers). :)

Now if only DOS games worked on XP...

Jobbie, I put xp on last night, my mouse accuracy has gone up loads, but the degree to which the mouse accelerates is a bit mad. How can I make the difference between slow/fine and fast movement less obvious?

I keep running into doors and stuff, although I can aim much more easily, but when I whip around, I pan too far.

There's a setting in the XP registry which, when playing games, overrides the mouse acceleration settings in the Control Panel.

Download and run this registry key to fix it. :)

Thx ulysses, I put the registry key in but all it did was slow my mouse right down. I downloaded some software from a logitech site, it gives me more control over the degree of acceleration, which should hopefully return me to full lameness in the course of a few hours.

Normal service will be resumed shortly, just look for Tom in your gs buddy list for free frags. Thank you.

Tom, just add these 2 to your cs shortcut, this works fine

-noforcemparms -noforcemaccel
