I have to say that I find the key problem to the current rounds of the console wars is that Microsoft and Sony are diluting their products. There is no need for all these varying mutations of the consoles.
This is where Nintendo's experience is imho serving them better than the younger players. They have one product that's doing it's thing. Yes it may be a more powerful Gamecube but that again shows Ninty's experience. They saved on their R&D costs and their production costs and have still produced a good selling product.
Imho Ninty's big mistake in this round of the console wars was not to ship a "DVD" Channel, i.e. to not allow people to spend £5 to make the Wii a DVD player. Wanna Fast Forward? hold the plus button... Rewind? hold the minus button. Parent's get to check the little notice board to see how much their kids are watching, etc.
I also feel that they should have stuck with the "Revolution" moniker, but hey that's just personal preference.
The 360 still needs to integrate the HD-DVD drive and there were rumblings that Toshiba might do this off their own back, i.e. do their own 360. The PS3 just needs to stick to a specification, right now I've no confidence in it as a product because I don't know what I'm going to get.
